I have heard from good sources that protests will be starting this week regarding the tax disute with the state. There are threats that the CSX and NS tracks will be blocked and also possibly the Tennesee gas pipeline runing through the Rez. The last time this happened the NYS thruway and I 86 were closed. This went on for weeks. Can anyone bring up a feed to cover this?

The NYS Thruway Rt. 90 runs directly through the Cattaraugus Indians Reservation. I have no idea where you get you information from but it is totally inaccurate.

The Thruway doesn't run anywhere near the Cattaraugus Reservation.

It runs right through the Rez. Back in the 90's I was diverted to Gowanda everyday on my way to Dunkirk. What a pain in the ass, but I don't blame the Native Americans.

I think some people get confused becouse the Reservation in Salamanca is the Allegany reservation, but it is in Cattaraugus County. The Cattaraugus Reservation is mostly in Erie County with small sections in Cattaragus and Chautauqua County. The Thruway does go through the western part of the Cattarugus Reservation about a mile from Lake Erie. The Thruway was blocked here in I believe 1997 requiring hundreds of State Troopers being posted there for several months to keep it open.

The feed to cover this would need T-Troop frequencies and there is a RR feed for that. There is not a feed that covers troop A in that area or the Erie County Sheriff.

The latest news is the state is not planning on enforcing the tax until September. There is another dispute with the federal government over tobacco shipments being stopped by the US mail (PACT ACT). There are signs on the reservation that state "NO MAIL - NO RAIL". Warning of the plans to block the CSX & Norfolk Southern mainlines. This could start soon.

thank goodness someone else remembers that the SNI closed down both the Thruway and Southern Tier Expressway! most people only remember the Thruway shutdown and the confrontation with the State Police there. myself, I was in Albany on the T-way heading to a concert when on the CB radio a bunch of truckers coming up from I-88 started saying the Indians were burning tires and had both highways shut down. so I wonder how much use CB radio will also play into any of these protests since you know most truckers have them and still use them.

and for the record, the third SNI reservation is Oil Springs on the Allegany-Cattaraugus County line at Cuba Lake. only a square mile in size and no full year residents there but the nation is in the midst of building a new Seneca OneStop store there.

stay tuned, literally!

Mea culpa. I thought they were talking about the Allegany Reservation, partly because I just drove through there on I-86 a couple of weeks ago. Mention of I-86 being closed made me think they meant that area. Sorry.

Just bumping this back up. It is almost September 1st and Patterson still thinks he can collect taxes even if it means in his words "violence and deaths". I am really concerned for our Troopers who will be forced to deal with this and concerned for the Senecas as well.

Dave has said no Troopers on the rez come Sept 1st. I'll believe it when I see it. Everything this Governor of ours has said isn't truthful... layoffs and furloughs come to mind. Buffalo News reported this morning that Federal Court Justice Arcara is reserving judgment on pending ligation with the Senecas & Cayugas after Monday when another court case will be heard on a different case the Senecas have in State Supreme Court. Meanwhile, the Oneidas have begun the process to move their cigarette factory from Angola to Oneida. Surprised that the Oneidas haven't tagged up with the Senecas in their legal quests. The Oneidas know how to keep litigation going in the Courts system for a loooong time, right Ray?
