Hi All,

I purchased an HP-1 to go along with my other digital scanners (996XT and PSR 500) for mobile use. I installed the Sentinel Software and synched with my HP-1. However, I notice that the entire San Diego City System is in the HPDB (and scans on my HP-1), but the entire RCS is missing from the HPDB, and consequently, is also missing in my HP-1. I guess my question is how can get the RCS (North and South) into my HP-1? This is a HUGE chunk of the county that seems to be missing.

I am new to the HP-1. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Steve

I don't have an HP but I've read a few posts and might have a clue. If you look at the location that has been assigned to the RCS in the database, it is up around Ramona. That could be too far from your location.

This location has been assigned for all zones and sites in the RCS system. This seems very wrong to me but I am not sure how it can be fixed. It seems to me that each zone and each site should have it's real location listed for the HP to work correctly. I don't know where this information would come from though.

We won't even get into location information for each of the departments that uses the RCS.

Hi Dan,

Thanks for the reply. I just entered my zip code as 92065 (Ramona) even though I am located near UCSD (University City), and still received the same systems while scanning (RCS still missing). I double checked the HPDB in Sentinel again just to make sure I am not missing something. I verified once again that the RCS does not seem to appear in the HPDB. I am new to the Home Patrol, so perhaps I am missing something. Does anyone have any ideas at how I can get the RCS system into my HP-1? It just seems odd that a system as large as RCS is missing in the HPDB as this covers the vast majority of San Diego County. It is entirely possible that I am doing something wrong. Also, has anyone else in San Diego been able to scan the RCS using a Home Patrol in San Diego County?

Thanks,

Steve

Hi Dan,

Yes, I set the HP-1 to the maximum range (30 miles) upon setting up my initial settings. I just double checked it again to make sure (set at the max of 30 miles).

Thanks,

Steve

I don't own an HP-1 either, but I downloaded the software just for the fun of it. Indeed the entire RCS is not included in the software database, even after an update.

UPDATE: Actually, it is located under the STATEWIDE section. This is obviously not correct and needs to be fixed.

It is probably in statewide because it spans 2 counties. If you check the location for the Imp. county sites, they are all in Ramona as well.

Hi All,

Sorry for not updating sooner. I was successful in fixing the issue yesterday. As it turns out I had loaded the Sentinel software on to my machine but forgot to synch with the HP-1 by selecting "Write to Home Patrol". Obvious HP-1 newbie mistake and entirely my fault. So I had the latest database loaded on my machine, but not running on the unit. The unit was running 10/17/10 version of the database when the 12/26/10 version was current. It appears UPMAN had updated the lat/long coordinates for the system on 11/04/10, which allowed the RCS to be included in more locations in the following HPDB version. Before this update others were having similar issues with the RCS in the the HP-1, but it seems fine now. I am receiving both the North and South loops which should be the case for my location, so everything seems fine now on the RCS front. Sorry for any confusion this may have caused.

So far I am impressed with the unit. The audio quality is good, and it is doing a good job of receiving talkgroups with clarity in both loops.

Thanks for all the replies.

Steve
