I decided to move my Uniden folder outside of the traditional Documents folder. I updated the Sentinel Folder path accordingly utilizing the Tools > Options... menu. My Favorites list will not show up on the left side of the screen as it used to. I'm telling Sentinel where to look... What am I missing?

Thanks!

You can use your Windows Explorer to do a search. You want to search for *.HPD and hopefully you will get results along the lines of F_00000n.hpd where n is a number. The "F" hpd files are Favorites List files and the "S" HPD files are for the full database. The "F" ones are what you are looking for.

You will want to then go to Sentinel in the tools>options menu and point the Sentinel Folder location to the folder which contains those F HPD files. I think you might be pointing at the wrong folder, which is why you can't find them.

If you cannot locate the HPD files using the Windows Explorer search, it is aspirin time because you might have cut without pasting them. Hopefully, in that case, you can see them in your recycle bin where you can restore them.

I have the *.HPD files and Sentinel is pointing to the ...\Uniden\BCDx36HP folder. When I click File > Import from hpe file (Favorites List)..., none of my Favorites Lists show up in the pop-up window. However, I can open my profiles. I don't need aspirin (yet), but it is extremely frustrating that it isn't seeing my Favorites.

Sounds like you are trying to import your HPD files using the HPE import function. HPE files are only generated using the HPE export function. You can’t import an HPD file.

Ah, good catch. So how would I go about getting my Favorites List to show up within Sentinel? I simply moved my Uniden folder and pointed Sentinel to the new location. How did my Favorites List just disappear?

He moved the files that Sentinel was originally using to a different location, and then went to options, and directed Sentinel to use that location. Now Sentinel does not see the files.

@LFRfreak is you move the files back where they were, and redirect Sentinel back to that location, does Sentinel see the files?

Correct sir...

Even if I move the files back and redirect Sentinel to the original location, my Favorites List will not appear on the left side of the window as it used to.

That's odd. Are all those favorites lists in the scanner? I mean it does not explain why Sentinel does not see them since moved, and back, but at least I would think if you read the scanner it should put them back, even though you should not have to do it that way.

My Favorites Lists are all in the scanner.

I haven't tried reading from the scanner yet, but my Inner Geek says that shouldn't be necessary. Solving this problem is more about the learning experience. If this were to happen when I didn't have a Favorites List already in the scanner, I would like to learn how to solve this.

I believe you are correct. All you did was change the working directory and then moved the files. Stuff we do with other programs. Something is up. Are you running the latest version of Sentinel?

Well... I just gave it another go and it works!! I'm still not quite sure where I went astray. But this time, I let Uniden create the folder in the new location and then I copied my old working directory into it. I'm greatly appreciative to everyone that chimed in!

Glad the problem was resolved. Like with all things computer, probably something really small.

Reading the scanner to obtain and then populate Sentinel with Favorites Lists can be helpful. During the "read" process, Sentinel is looking to see if the files are already on the computer, where they are expected. If so you are asked to copy them with new names, over-write or leave things alone. This would tell you that they files can be found. If you don't see the message, then Sentinel cannot locate those on the computer. That's typical of the file pointer not pointing in the proper location.

On the other hand, reading from the scanner might not "all it can be". By that I mean there are reasons why a Favorites List may be on the computer somewhere, but were not written to the scanner during the upload. For example in the profile, Download was not On.
