On my Radio Shack 197 (the base setup of your 1040) I setup 1 system with only the control channels. Then I separate talk groups into quick keys. So VFD has all TG under 1 QK. SO has all TG under a QK and so on. But all are under 1 system with only 2 Control Channel frequencies. That's just how I do it. YMMV.

The PRO-197 does not have quick keys. The talkgroups are placed into scan lists. Squad1b, are you using programming software?

I use Butel ARC500 Basic to program my PRO-197. The same software will also work with your WS1040. You can also use PSREdit500. Both have a free trial period to determine which one you like better. Members have had problems receiving the key for Win500 after purchasing it. You may have problems receiving Ramsey County with the WS1040 due to simulcast distortion. It all depends upon your location. Since you are a premium subscriber, you will be able to download the programming information directly from the Radio Reference database using either of the software programs.

Unfortunately, the PRO-197 isn't of much use in Forrest or Lamar Counties due to the MSWIN system being P25 Phase 2. What other scanner are you using?
Actually, the system is phase 2 but most agencies are still operating on phase 1. HPD, FCSO, FC VFD, AIR RESCUE 5, 6 &7, LC VFD, LCSO, PPD, PFD. The only agencies I listen to on phase 2 are highway patrol and wildlife agencies. Everything else is always jabbering on phase 1. I have lots of other scanners for phase 2.
