Hi,
Right now I have a PCR1000 I have had for a few years now but I am looking to get a handheld. I want one that does trunking but do I need to go digital?

Is there anything I would hear in the Burlingon/Halton area on Digital? I just wonder is it worth the extra money. I could either get a BC346XT for about $270 or a digital BCD396XT for about $650. Trying to decide which way to go.

Anyone in Burlington give me some info on what they are listening too?

P.S if anyone wants to make a deal or swap for the PCR1000 maybe we can talk.

Thanks
Mike

The Halton EDACS system seems to be totally analogue. I listen to Burlington and occasionally Oakvilles tower. If you want to listen to the Fleetnet system which carries the OPP (Digital), Mto Enforcement (Digital) MOH Halton EMS (Analogue) MTO Patrols (Analogue) there is plenty to listen to as well.

On Halton's website they seem to be in the works to recplace their current EDACS system with a Motorola P25 system, something to keep in mind for the future.

That makes 2 new Scanner peoples from Halton Halton scanner heads unite! Hail suburbia !

Thanks for the info,

The future changes to the systems is what is holding me back right now from spending alot on a digital unit. If they go digital they probably will scramble it too and i wont be able to listen even with a digital unit.
Do you have a link to the Halton info on the radio changes? Might not be worth getting anything really. if they are changing it all soon we wont be able to hear anything any more :(

Thanks for the info.

Option 4 – Over-The-Air-Rekeying (OTAR)
• This is the ability to change radio encryption codes “over the air”.
• This will save large staff effort in programming and updating encryption codes. Staff
would have to “touch” each radio individually without this feature.

I guess this means it will be encrypted and we wont be able to listen??
