My friend and I both have Pro-97's. Neither one of us has ever had a hit with it. I have a friend on a VFD who actually keyed his radio for me on every channel he had, and I only got one hit out of nine channels. Is there a trick to this or what?

You need to be close to the RF source. I've picked up a few things in hotel rooms when traveling. Try to key up a FRS/GMRS radio nearby, or go to your favorite fast food drive-through, where they use headsets and ask if you want an apple pie with that.

Signal Stalker II

i have found that it works better with a different antenna than the stock one,
something with gain or out side one works good for me,

Thanks, I was really starting to think mine was broken. I have picked up my wife when she uses our cordless phone. Handy if she ever decides to cheat on me and call her boy friend while im 50' away!

The whole purpose of Signal Stalker is to detect strong NEARBY signals. If you want more distant stuff, use the standard search feature. If standard search is picking up too much, remove the antenna.

Side by side, my BR-330T is a much better performer with Close Call vs. my PRO-97's Signal Stalker II. That said, the PRO-97 is a heck of a lot easier to operate on the fly and sounds better...

You may not have all the bands enabled, or you may have it set to just Police/Fire RX only. Or some of the freqs could be locked out (unlikely). Make sure you are using the band keys correctly (each number corresponds to a band). If you know what kind of radio you're trying to stalk, you should be able to eliminate most of the bands. Like I mostly just stalk w/ 2 & 5, which is vhf-hi and uhf. That should help. Traveling from city to city on a major highway this weekend (and a mobile antenna) yielded many results, especially police and fire repeaters for small towns.

Also don't forget that it can take several seconds until a hit is confirmed. It usually slows down in the range and then hits it. I watched an airline attendant talk into his radio but SSII took about 2-3 seconds to nail the exact freq. So tell your friend to hold the TX button down for at least 5 seconds.
