Does anyone agency or anyone looking at this forum use a Simoco Radio? If so, what do you think about them?

We use a few (mostly a Motorola agency). The ones we have seem to be quality radios for what they are used for. There are plenty of agencies using them but it really comes down to what you want the radio to do.

As an individual, I have an SRM9030. It's a great radio, but my main (and pretty much only) real gripe is that the mic is a cheap and nasty, flimsy feeling thing compared to a Motorola mic, for example. The rest of the radio is fine.

A mate asked about their P25 upgrade option a while back, and they were very rude and unhelpful over the phone.

I have a pair of Simoco PRP80's which are quite good.
One is VHF and is programmed for 2M Amateur and CFA, the other is a UHF which does UHF CB and analogue police receive- not that it is much good since the Police are encrypted P25 now.

A friend used to work for Simoco a few years back- got lots of surplus PRM80's and the old Philips FM900 gear when they got rid of them 3-4 years ago.
I would love an SRM9000 for 70cm and UHF CB in the car- but too pricey to risk having it pinched.

Wonder if Simoco will launch their own P25 networks and drop MPT1327 one of these days.

Hi Commscanaus,

Simoco have been supporters of the TETRA digital standard & have offered product to Australian government users. They may also offer P25- after all Motorola & others will offer either.

Cheers,

Richard
