• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello, everyone. I saw a Sirio antenna on Amazon called the GP2745. I was wondering if anyone had ever used this antenna or knows anything about it? I was thinking of giving it at try since they are only asking $80 for it. Thanks in advance for the advice!

I've used a few that were very similar and with about the same angle on the radials. It works about as good as any 1/4 wave ground plane and its not that much different than the old A/S Starduster or the newer Sirio version of it.

Edit: Now that I think about it these ground planes with extreme downward angles on the radials may work slightly better than a ground plane with horizontal elements. The A/S Starduster was reported to work very well in its day and better than a 1/4 wave ground plane. I had one but never did a side by side comparison. The reason I say it may work slightly better is because ground radials that are all on the same plane as in 90deg to the vertical element would not radiate because there is equal RF currents going in opposite directions at any given point which cancels radiation. Compared to a 1/2 wave dipole a 1/4 wave ground plane looses a little gain because of this.

When bending ground radials downward, at some point the RF is going essentially the same direction at any given time and now opposite to the vertical radiator making it more like a dipole than a 1/4 ground plane. The most extreme version of this would be a coaxial dipole with a grounded sleeve for the ground radial side. The A/S Starduster and possibly this Sirio ground plane may be working in the region where the ground radials are actually a radiating part of the antenna. I don't know for sure but that's my guess. Anyway, $80 is pretty cheap for a CB base antenna these days.

I just bought my brother one, and it's great. It's a simple design that's been around for years. Hard to screw up. Will work very well when placed up high, and you can hit them with plenty of power.

It's kind of like a Starduster M-400 without the umbrella skeleton supporting the radials. This is a good value in base station antennas. And I concur with PRC, $80 is a bargain. Antenna prices have gotten stupid in the past six months.

I had the Sirio GPE27 5/8. I paid $95 shipped to my door in January. If you can find them anywhere right now, the cheap side is $149, and some places want almost $200 for them.

The Starduster jumped from $79 to $149 and you can't find the Tornado 27 anywhere.

I paid about $215 shipped for the Vector 4000, and I shudder to think what it would cost right now if you can find it in stock.
