Why did you need to reinstall your base Operating System ?

I am downloading Skyware right now. You said Hitting the ESC key only runs a row of symbols along the bottom what make and model computer are you using ?

Got done with download, used Rufus to put ISO on usb. Restarted my dell during splash screen F12 to enter boot menu, selected the usb with Skywave ISO, as with linux it took some time to build OS, auto logon, I did have to learn how to setup WIFI, went through Skywave menu, seems to work.
Download is 2.2xx Gigabytes from Sourceforge.

Never give up, you will get it and learn something today.

There had been a variety of Linux distros installed prior to this so I reformatted the hard drive for a clean start.

It's a Toshiba Satellite L300 with a Celeron 550 @ 2 GHz with 2 GHz Ram

Glad you got it going.

one of the things you should get in the habit of doing is learning how to checksum/verify your ISO downloads before you go thru all the work of burning media/building systems. A single bit flipped in a picture file might give you a single pixel color error or weird metadata, a single bit flipped in a compressed iso for a system might render the entire thing useless.

checksums are usually posted by responsible distro hosts, and are easy to find.

Remember you are not installing Skyware to the computer, it will run from the USB after changing the boot order to USB.
Computer you listed should be enough to run Skywave. Your ram is a little lacking, another 2g ram wont hurt.
GOOD to start with a clean fresh plate.

I finally managed to get Skywave Linux to run on my old laptop.
Had to download a earlier version that was compatible with the Legacy Bios.
Now I have to decide which of the many Ham Radio apps to use.
Can anyone recommend the most suitable one for my SDRPlay RSP1A ?
Thanks

I can get my RTL-SDR to work on both of those programs but not my SDRPlay RSP1A.
It may need a driver perhaps.
Can someone point me in the right direction ?
