I looked in the DB and did not see this TG mentioned in Airport Authority or AC33. There has been ALOT of traffic on this TG this morning from the AC33 site about changing signal lights on the runways at the airport. Can anyone else cement this TG to a various Airport OPS TG?

I show a number of hits, but that is all. I'll take a listen today and see what I can hear.

<Raises hand excitedly> I know, I know!!!!! :)

This talkgroup is MY talkgroup that I use at work. This talkgroup is Airport Operations. On our radios, it is referred to as "3A". FYI, Airport Fire is referred to as "3B". And yes, LGLHOOK, you will hear that every night starting about 2300L. What we are doing is the nightly airfield lighting inspection. You will hear more chatter about this on VHF air traffic control frequencies (read: 133.65, 121.90, 119.05, 118.3, 132.65) rather than on AC33 as the Airport Duty Manager makes the request for the tower controller to change lights around. What they were doing that night more than likely was testing the low visibility lighting system. You probably also heard the airport electricians on the talkgroup also. We have them come to our talkgroup when they are working out on the runways.

You will hear a lot of chatter in the morning about lines at the security screening checkpoints also. If you listen to our TG during specific shifts, you will notice a lot more frivolity on the radio than other times. I must admit my guys and gals that I work with and that work for me sure like to have fun.

Just out of curiosity, fodbuster, have you submitted this TG to the Db? Which TG on the Airport Authority TRS does this TG correspond to? (I can't find one that is labeled "3A")

Yes, you could. I was going to submit them all at once...
I know the powers that are tend to be a little "protective" of this type of information, but it will just be a matter of time until those with Trunker programs and taps in their scanners mine the information from the air waves. You claimed that you were about 70% complete in getting all the information on the AC33 and Airport Authority TRS "reband," yet you redacted that statement.

I don't know why you insist on keeping this information so secret nor do I understand your statement (which you also redacted) that by submitting all the info at the same time helps the Db Admins. I just got a "newsletter" from Lindsay...I assume that all members did too (click here if you didn't)...that extolled the functionality of our new RR Web site and he also requested that members not sit on new information but submit it right away so other members could take advantage of it.

If you wait to submit it, fodbuster, how long are we looking at? ...days? ...weeks? ...months? So I wonder again, what purpose is served in waiting to submit what you now have?

This is interesting... On AC33 today I am hearing TG: 53184 doing more of PD type of activities, like found property.

fodbuster, does your group work found property?

Updated at 08:51
Ok so I am hearing a lot more OPS related traffic, like escorts on the airfield.

I will submit as 'Salt Lake Airport Operations 3A'

Yep, we do. We do a lot of things out there.

<climbs up on soapbox...>

That being said..........either tonight or tomorrow, I will be submitting an update to theaton with all of the information that I can currently share. Please remember, I am walking kind of a fine line. It is NOT that I am withholding information for the DB. Rather, I just have to lay low once in a while. Please bear with me during this transition phase, as I have to be careful. If you have specific questions, please feel free to PM me. All of that now said, there will be some information that I WILL NOT make available, for reasons that many of you can understand. When you find it out, that is great. If you don't get it from me, that's even better.

<gets down from soapbox>

This forum is a great resource. Let's keep this kind of interaction going. Between all of us, we can figure all of it out. Some cities and agencies are just unwilling to disclose any of the information, so those of you with UniTrunker are a great asset to the rest of the community.

fodbuster, since I have more or less be a critic of you, I want to be the first to thank you for the information. I truly understand where you are coming from and I hope you are able to provide more when possible.

Thank you.

Maybe you shouldn't keep telling us you have information and then hold on to it for what seems like forever. It's like teasing a dog using raw meat! If we don't know about it, we won't be pressing our faces against the window looking for it. Then you can surprise us when you are able to part with it...without jeopardizing...er...ah...anything.

FODBUSTER;
Any ideas when the change over will occur/be complete? And what will happen to the Airports current system (3521)/freqs?

From what I am hearing, it will be later this year before the changeover is complete. I have been told that the 3521 talkgroups will be kept in place to use as a backup system in case the AC33 fails.

The Airport Authority TRS is showing that it has received updates within the past 24 hours but other than theaton's log entry describing the changes, I'm not seeing any changes in the Db itself.

bnielson submitted a very minor addition (a channel #). I haven't heard from fodbuster yet, but I know from experience that good submissions take time. I will process it ASAP once I get it. I'm also working on some conventional submissions.

Here's something to digest while you wait--I just discovered my biggest Web jackpot ever! Check out the Statewide Communications Interoperability Plan (SCIP 2007). It must have appeared online recently or I would have discovered it already. It has every state repeater and a broad overview of UCAN coverage (no TGs unfortunately). How am I ever toing to digest all this in the middle of a busy semester... :D

theaton, can you tell me how that works. I looked at the Airport Authority TRS then clicked on System Last Updated 01-21-2008 19:33 and the last entry in the log says:

"Updated Talkgroups (26 Updated, 0 Deleted) theaton 2008-01-31 19:33:47."

I took that to mean that there were 26 changes in the TRS but I don't see any. I'm not understanding this.

I also followed that link you posted and, yeah, you will have your hands full swimming through that document even without your other responsibilities!

That document is going to take awhile to glean thru. I downloaded a copy to my system, before it disapears. We've had things appear and then disappear before. I did see that it shows Hill AFB FD as being on the UCAN system. interesting reading. Thank-you for the link.

Yes, I've noticed that, too. 26 is simply the number of TGs in the group I updated, even though I only added one letter to one TG (1328). I guess now that the systemic updates are complete I should mark (i.e. not supress) even minor changes. But occasionally I see a spelling error or such, and I don't think that kind of correction deserves notice.:wink:

Oh! Okay. Whew! I know I'm old, but I thought I was losing it! No comments from the peanut gallery either, please!
