• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I am about to pull the trigger on a HR1062 and a handfull of HP782 and 2-3 HM782 with accompanying AES256 license for my small group of friends. This will be a "commercial" implementation (pending FCC license).

I believe I will need SmartOne dispatch software to accomplish a couple things. Anyone have firsthand experience with the dispatch software? Id it necessary to accomplish my gloas below?
Here are my use case requirements:
  • Require radio registration. Only registered radios would allow repeater to operate.
    • A repeater owner in my area has a problem with unknown users piggybacking off of their system
  • Remote stun/kill
  • OTA programming
  • Remote management / monitoring of repeater
  • Store & fwd messaging
  • Priority and emergency calling.
  • In the future might consider integrating SIP
  • Might consider GPS location reporting in the future
I am not interested in the recording, cctv or connecting with other system types.

If you dont mind spending 5-8 grand on the software that you can only load 1 dispatch console and i think 25? radios to then go for it!
No idea why its SOO expensive. We have 130 school buses on a single hytera RD982S and they would love to have a dispatch software but dont want to fork out 10 grand all said and done for that to be able to see GPS locations, emergency button alerts+gps loaction, and send and rx text messages. Kenwood use to have a similar software back in the day for about 500 bucks that did all the same stuff. Now thats a good price.

Under the access manager section for local access you put any radio id number that you want to be able to access the repeater. So someone COULD just change their radio id to a known working one and possibly get onto the repeater, but if you encrypt voice+data and use a over the air authentication key you put in all your radios they wont be able to hijack your group at least. Dont think hytera has their version of RAS just yet.. or if so i havnt noticed it or deployed it

OTA programming is its own software and you can send update via repeater connected to a computer or even a mobile/portable connected to a pc thats in range of the repeater.

Remote management of a repeater could be done in a basic way with rdac but very limited

Emergency options are done in the radios not the repeater and seems to work just fine on the school bus company we have it enabled for.

We have done SIP on the RD series to call into specific talkgroups from a phone line or even have the option to private call specific radios. And make outgoing phone calls from the radios too

GPS locations can be seen on the radio in a few differnt formats. Give lat+lon or another option would show the distance the calling radio is from your location and also show the degree its coming from.

All this stuff can be done at no extra cost but in a much more limited way then using the very nice but very expensive smart dispatch. Hytera does have a IP dispatch software, you connect a repeater or mobile and can see all the activity on a repeater. what talkgroups are in use and radio ids, can send and rx text message plus use a pc mic to transmit. Downside to it is hasnt been updated since 2016 or 2018 and does not seem to work on H series radios that iv tried. Only MD/RD series so.. that sucks.

Wow, I did not realize the price tag would be that high for a single seat. Thank you.

Yeah.. its crazy expensive for what you really get with it. Maybe if it was around the 1000 buck mark it would attract more customers buying it. But not at that wacky price tag
