I bought a BCD9962P2 on a friends suggestion, it sounded like I can do what I want and learn the basics and even more advanced use but I’m having trouble even figuring out where to start

Since your a premium subscriber you can use free software, Freescan to program your radio, I use it.
It just doesnt support NXDN, DMR programming if you decide to do the upgrade.
