I bought a used Pro 2055 yesterday and it has been partially programmed ( 4 banks) with ScanCat Lite. If I decided to program it for my area with Win 97, would that cause any problems...or should I reinitialize it and start from scratch?

Also 2 of the banks have frequencies that were already in it that I would like to keep as they are Mil Air and Federal frequencies with tagging.

In Win97, after setting the correct comport under configuration menu, select Download from Scanner under Scanner menu. Then forget about ScanCat Lite forever. ;)

Edit: Copy the two banks you desire to keep to open banks in your Win97 file using Edit menu Copy Bank. You will need both the downloaded file and your file open in the same Win97 incident.

On the contrary - programming with the ScanCat Lite is what WILL cause problems. Don Starr is the GRE-manufactured scanner expert. His WinXX products are the overwhelmingly-preferred software for GRE manufactured RS scanners.

There are many threads posted here about how bad ScanCatLite is. I can't call it software, I call it JUNK. Get WIN97 running, download from the scanner before going any further. Then create an entire new profile and copy what you want from the download, RR, or enter by hand. Then upload the new profile with WIN97 and you're good to go.

Happy Holidays

Yeah I read all the bad reviews about ScanCat...just didn't want to have two programs in my scanner dueling it out. So, just to be clear...when I power it on it says Programmed with ScanCat Lite...will Win 97 remove all of that or should I clear the scanner completely after saving what I need and then running Win 97?

Edit the Welcome Screen (on Settings/Weather page) to your choice prior to writing Win97 file back to scanner - this will be what you see on power on.

The programs only reside on your PC. The data a PC program creates is sent to the radio. Only one such "radio memory image" is present on the radio at any time. If you use one software package to program the radio, then later use another, the first software package's data is completely removed. No conflict.
when I power it on it says Programmed with ScanCat Lite
That sounds like an advertisement. The power-on text can be changed by PC software.
will Win 97 remove all of that
Yes, along with anything else that's programmed into the radio.

You could download from the radio into Win97, make any desired changes (including the "power-on" advertisement), then send the data back to the radio. Whatever is in your radio will be overwritten - correctly, this time.

Great...thanks for all the replies..just wasn't sure that ScanCat was actually residing in the scanner or not.

Thanks again.
