I just got a 396T yesterday and after setting it up and comparing it side by side with my 246T I've noticed the sound is horrible.
It is tinny sounding and staticy on most channels when the 246T sounds has a deeper sound and has no static covering it.

Also the priority sometime completely misses on the 396t when the 246t locks on right away, and when it is checking the priority channel it seems to drop off the previous frequency for almost twice as long (I only have 1 priority channel set up).

I DO NOT have close call or weather search on, and it sounds the same with the original firmware and the newest one.

I tried swapping out the antenna for the one from my 246T and a Radio Shack 800mz antenna also to see if it made any difference and it does not.

also I have channels that the 396T stops on with nothing but static that the 246T does not stop on.

All my Sysyems I've tested so far are local and they are set up the same as on the 246T.

any ideas or suggestions??

I will try that now

I did the AGC tweak already ( I used the shown settings for Digital, but was unsure what to use for Analog)

Analog still sounds like garbage
Ana Res Ranges from 0 to +6 I have it at -3
Ana Ref Ranges from -5 to +5 I have it at -3
Ana Gn ranges from 0 to 15 I have it at 5

also it is still not getting priority hits

I am running Firmware 1.13.17

When you "tweak" the Analog you need to make sure the AGC setting for Digital is OFF (settings) , I have mine set at +3 , then turn the Digital back on.

Analog was on, digital was off when I set them
you have +3 for what setting?
and what do you have for the other 2 settings?

By the way, thanks for your help so far

Played around with the AGC a little more today, Sound is getting a bit better
I now have it set at
ANA RES TIME: +3
ANA REF GAIN: +3
ANA GN RANGE: 8
anyone have any suggestion for a better setup?

It's weird, sounds tinny & some static in the house, outside it sounds better
My 246 has no problems in the house using the same antennas

Do you understand what each of those settings does?

From what I understand is as follows:

ANA RES TIME - how long it will take before it starts doing any modifications to the analogue audio signal.

ANA REF GAIN - whether it will increase or decrease the volume(s) of high(er) or low(er) audio

ANA GN RANGE - the range of the possible changes, im assuming that if you set this too low, you will not notice much difference.

At the moment I have my analogue settings as follows:

ANA RES TIME: -4
ANA REF GAIN: -5
ANA GN RANGE: 15

My settings are mainly geared towards earphone listening though so will most likely not be suitable for you. However, changing my ''-'' to ''+'' should do it.

If anyone has more of an understanding of what each setting actually means then please post. I do reember reading about these settings on the Wiki but they only seemed to mention Digital settings.

OK, this is getting weird
sound is getting better, I think the tinnie sound is from it picking up interference from my computer? The 246t does not pick up the intererference.

I've been running both scanner side by side and the 396t just will not stop or lock onto 1 of my local towns, the 246 stops on it every time

the frequencies are correct, and I even deleted the system and re-entered it
