It should be pointed out that the BCD996T is a mobile/base scanner and the Pro-96 is a hand held scanner. The Uniden hand held is the BCD396T (not all features of the 996 are in the 396). Also for the Pro-96 (and Pro-2096 base/mobile) you must use software to program the SD system, it cannot be done by hand. The only software that works reliably to do so (at this time) is Win96 (not free) from Starrsoft.

What is baud rate is it set automatic or is it something that need to be set I bought a BCD996T and programmed it for the south dakota bands and have not had any proplems but I did not see anything that gave a option on the buad rate.
Thanks,

Thanks,
The Radio Shack scanners automatically lock in & decode the baud rate (indicated in the display).

Anyone who can answer on the Uniden models?

Actually there are only set bit rates depending on the system type, mostly it is referred to as the bits per second as opposed to baud. All Motorola systems are at 3600 bps (happens to be 3600 baud); APCO-25 systems are 9600 bps (4800 baud); EDACS Standard are 9600 bps (also 9600 baud); EDACS Narrow are 4800 bps (4800 baud). Hope this helps clear it up. So when you set the system type, it expects to see the appropriate bps rate. In the Pro-96/2096 they mistakenly refer to P25 as Motorola, so indeed it does detect the proper type based on bps rate of the CC and use it to determine the correct way to decode; the Uniden 796 and 296 do it in a similar fashion; the Uniden 396 / 996 are set via the menu to the proper type.
