I've been hearing strange fire/EMS dispatches over the past few months and the addresses and fire departments are NOT local. Two days ago I searched the address given during a call and it took me to Hardin County TN. Let me say here that I am in Newton County AR so I'm thinking that can't be right. Just a few minutes ago I heard another dispatch for the Saltillo first responders to a location that again took me to Hardin County TN. After doing a little research, I found that they use the same INPUT frequency as my local EMS dispatch. Now it's my understanding that unless you are very close to the TX radio you won't RX on the input freq. According to Google maps I am 6+ hours away from Hardin County. Anyone with more knowledge than me care to explain how this can happen? The input freq in question is 150.790 which is the same input freq for my local EMS, the receive freq for my local is 155.385 and for Hardin County is 154.385. Let me also add that all this is happening with my Anytone AT D878UVII Plus handheld with a 6 inch Nagoya antenna. I can only hear dispatch, I can't hear the responders. If skip or tropospheric ducting was the culprit, why can I only hear one dispatch in TN? Maybe because that is the only freq that matches one of my locals?
Thanks in advance,
Ramey

Hardin Co must be using 150.79 as a paging/tone out frequency, possibly transmitting from a mountain or tall tower. Most definitely ducting. We have the sam e situation in Texas. Santa Fe FD has a repeater, 157.450 in/154.370 out and we get the Iberville Parish Fire tone outs which are on 157.450 almost every night, almost 300 miles away.
Take care

I heard them again today, paged out Adamsville first responders. I'm not mad at it, in fact its kinda cool as long as it's the only place I hear. On a side note, my 83 year old uncle has been researching family history and found a relative that was born in Hardin County in 1830... AND is buried less than 15 minutes from my house! Go figure...
