Even though the Thompson Center was sold to Google, the Starcom site there is still operational carrying traffic even while major construction is going on.
Are you able to confirm that this site is still located at the former James R. Thompson Center? Any possibility that it might have been moved to the Jesse White State of Illinois Building at 115 S. LaSalle St.?

I can not confirm it moved or still in the same place.

This past Saturday, I logged activity on SC21 TG 37206. Users were RIDs 493706 ("TC 112"), 493708 ("TC 137") and 493717 ("TC 225"). They IDd this TG as "Fire Travel".

The RIDs and TG number indicate that this could be a Tazewell County TG. Does anyone know who these users are? It would be good to add this to the database if it can be confirmed as Tazewell County.

On Tuesday 8/19, two of these "TC" units were heard on TG 37359, which they IDd as "EMA 1". I've added TGs 37206 and 37359 to the SC21 database under Tazewell County.

More Tazewell County SC21 TGs active with radio service tests, etc. :

TG 37201 - User IDd as "ETSB talkgroup"
TG 37216 - Test count by Tazewell EMA unit, TG name not given
TG 37229 - Test counts, tones from "radio service", TG IDd as "Marquette Heights Fire (unintelligible)"
TG 37230 - Test counts, tones from "radio service", TG IDd as "South Fire", mentioned Tremont Fire
TG 37249 - Fire TG? Single transmissions by "Pekin Fire" (RID 493124) and "Green Valley" Fire (RID 434114)

TG 37201 has been added to the database. The others have not since they are either don't appear to be in service yet or haven't been confirmed yet.

Question:
I am receiving a tone every 10 seconds on site 207 TG Troop 5 Disp. A (1300) uid 2906294. Never heard this before on StarCom. Does anyone know what this means?

Emergency button activated on someone’s radio.
It’s called Channel Markers. Activated through the Dispatch Console for every 10 seconds to remind other units not involved in a Major Incident that radio traffic is held. Normally T3 doesn’t use this on their MCC7550 Software, but they do have the option of having it. Cook County Sheriff’s Police and KaneCom does like to use it often as it is helpful notify units unaware of the ongoing situation rather than saying that the channel is busy over the air.

Thank you for your replies.
The channel marker sounds like what I heard as a bit later I did hear someone ask to release the channel and the beeping stopped a minute later. I must have missed the call to block the channel.

Ive heard a similar beeping noise after the dispatcher notified units that Motorola was doing an update to their system.

Hi all,
Quick question. Is Plainfield PD going encrypted? I see them using TG 1004 only and it is fully encrypted.

Good evening, everyone!

Being so new to monitoring digital systems, I'm feeling kinda lost and overwhelmed about monitoring the Starcom-21 system. So far, I have most of the RTA PACE Bus system in my radio, some of the IDOT District-1 Schaumburg talk groups, some of the ISP Chicago (Troop-3?) talk groups, and some other things from this system.

Being that I'm in metro Cook County, what would more experienced people recommend I program for listening?
I see a few Starcom frequency listings for Cook County. Not sure which frequencies I programmed for Cook County, but if I'm looking at things correctly, no matter which Cook County system I put in, I'm going to hear the same things, right?
Is there any good way for me to understand what I'm hearing when system users talk? What I mean by that question is when I listen, how do I understand some of their radio lingo and references they use?

It all depends on your interest and knowledge, your location in metro area etc. Which scanner(s) are you using? Anything other than the Uniden SDS scanners will probably be problematic as many systems are simulcast and many of the older scanners don't handle simulcast trunking sites well. One thing at a time, learn the lingo of what you're listening to, use this forum's search feature or Google search when you come across a term or acronym you aren't familiar with.

I'm using an SDS-100. Great radio so far! I've always been curious about how Pace operates, so I started there. The Illinois Toll Highway Authority and IDOT have always been agencies I've never known much about, so I'm also plugging their talk groups into the radio. There are some listings I saw here that caught my interest that are statewide, so I'll likely check out those things eventually. When I saw the listings, there was something called ISSI. What is that?

If you look at the heading of the ISSI patches, it will give an explanation. What part of the metro area are you in so you can program only the site(s) closest to you.
