call me crazy, but it would take all of half a day to install a temporary base and connect it to the console. then all they have to do is enable a patch. just another case of folks thinking they have to do things the hard way.

I think it's a bit more involved than that.
Starcom21 has some software issues that need to be addressed first. Did you read the link?
It makes sense for BPD to wait for motorola to work out the bugs first.

i'm talking about the dispatchers relaying messages from one center to another, not the system problems. and yes i read the link, they way i understand it they been doing it that way for a while when it would have been easier to simply put a base in at one location to patch over. it would work the same as any other mobile radio, barring console/operator issues.

They can and have "patched" in the past,but it seems that when they do this there are always logistical and delay problems. There are currently TG's on the system which provide a fulltime patch from BPD on their event and dispatch channel to the other county agencies,but it works poorly in reverse.
