You're saying that 146.970 can be hit from any location in the entire state to report severe weather to NWS?

146.970 is the NWS severe weather net and it covers all the counties that the Indianpolis Weather service office covers. If you wish to hear what is going on in your county you need to listen to the repeater in your home county.146.970 is for the counites to check in to the net back to Indianapolis Weather.

The 146.970 isn't really statewide, the repeater is located in Indianapolis so from Crawfordsville, you may need a good outside antenna to receive it. It is used to cover the counties under the Indianapolis National weather service office, like what W9NES said.

W9NES is also correct and that your local traffic is on your local repeater and one person from your area will report to the statewide net on 146.970, weather that is reportable in your area, and at the end of the local net, report how many check-in's your local area net had. 146.97 is really for the NWS and reportable weather. It is fun to listen to if your area is not under the gun of severe weather and other areas are, or it can help you determine when severe weather may hit your area. They usually tell the local counties when to bring up the local nets and when to close them.

In SW Indiana it is 146.790

Here in Vigo (Illiana Skywarn area) we use a 444.350mhz freq for Comm with NWS in Indy...Central Indiana Skywarn is linked to that repeater here when severe weather is happening.

Also for a Mod on the Indiana State page for SKYWARN/Severe Weather link shows at the bottom Vigo's primary as the 146.685 machine...this is really the back up machine and is used for pager service to skywarn and RACES members. 145.230 is the primary Freq with no PL tone

Also you have it listed first on that page but 151.4 as a PL tone when there is no tone needed
