Confirmed!!

Radio Enciclopedia is the dominant station on 530khz up here lately:

I can confirm that it is Radio Enciclopedia. Tuesday night (10/27), was the strongest, steadiest signal I'd heard. I was again on Hatteras Island that night. Anywhere on the mainland (at least for me) RE gets covered up by stateside stations. On the OBX, RE is clearly the strongest. Helps to have an almost all water path between Cuba and the OBX. :)

530 am from tampa florida

I hear the spanish style music on my car radio. I hear the words Cuba often. Pleasant old style american music or perhaps spanish. could fall asleep to it.
Kinda reminds me of cuba in that it is all old music. Thought it could be a signal from cuba? any ideas ?

I get something spanish sounding with some fragments of English (I think) I hear when tuning up to 530 when beacon hunting. It has puzzled me, but never paid much attention. Next time I'll listen a bit more and see if I can pull anything out of the muck. It's fairly strong here in central New York (Syracuse area) but not the clearest signal.

I googled 530 AM and it couldn't pinpoint one thing for your area-you need to "sit it out" like us DXers do and just hang out on that frequency till they I.D. or until you can extract something that indicates where they are like a commercial with a phone# (area code gives it away)

I have been copying this station here in Tucson most of the evening. The lady speaks so softly, it is hard to copy anything. The music however is easily discernible.

Signal Strength

I tested the signal strength along the Gulf coast from Texas to the Keys, and it is definately strongest at the Keys.

I live just South of Tampa Bay, 530 AM sounds like a local during the day. If the stick is near the gulf down Havana way, the saltwater brings it in loud and clear.

I am in Melbourne, FL and this station is blasting in here. Nice music and ID in Spanish. Haven't caught the ID yet but I agree that seems to be coming from Cuba.

Antenna: Pixel RF PRO-1A HF Loop Antenna w/TenTen RX-320D receiver (de W6AFK)

Here in central VA, 530 on the car radio used to be ALWAYS Cuba until that station in Grand Turk came on. Now it is a mix of fade-in/out but the Cuban music is what it is. And, it makes sense that you guys in FL would hear it all day on an all-water path on that low frequency.

Steve KC4JGC: I am jealous, it has been too many years since I've been down that far, probably early 90's. I'm jealous I tell you! Try this: last summer I was at KDH on the beach and laid down 250ft of wire on the sand pointed east. Tuned the R-75 to 1521khz and sure enough, right after sunset, Saudi Arabia started coming in. Lay down some wire, or a loop if you have it, and tune up Europe, especially right now at the spring equinox. Good luck!

I am in South Florida. The 530 kHz signal booms in here 24/7.
Little birdie--no pun intended--tells me it is a powerhouse down in the Turks/Cacios Islands.

Just FYI--could be wrong.

Can anyone confirm if Turcks & Caicos is still on 530? I never see this station reported on the DX lists and wonder if they are still around? The only thing I've ever heard on 530 is CIAO Bampton, Ontario and Cuba's Radio Encyclopedia playing beautiful music.

Turks and Caicos had an English Ident at the top of the hour and I haven't heard them in over a year. They used to be quite regular.

If I remember correctly it's (Radio) Rebelde out of Cuba on 540 with a WHOLE lot of kilowatts so I'm not surprised it's heard in south Florida loud and clear 24/7. Between Rebelde, Progresso and Reloj all over AM and FM and of course RHC on shortwave "Alligator Island" is alive with radio!

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8320/4.5.0.81 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

After seeing this thread revived after a 2 year hiatus and NO ONE saying anything about R. Enciclopedia in 4 years, I thought I'd leave the truck radio on 530 overnight to see what I'd hear between naps. From 2200 EDT 9/17 to 0500 9/18, this is what I've heard:
R. Rebelde (male announcer). Aren't they supposed to be on 540?

R. Enciclopedia (female announcer). At 0500, it's the strongest station with another spanish station which could still be Rebelde, but not sure.

The LYQ NDB.

My QTH today: Lynchburg VA.

I have never heard the Turks and Caicos station nor CIAO on 530 in VA, NC, DE or MD to my knowledge.
