Anyone know of a store in the North Eastern part of the state? I work in Lake Zurich, and live in Niles. I wouldn't mind driving to Wisconsin, Indiana....or a little south...Downers Grove area etc, I'm not afraid of a (up to 2 hour) drive. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Wow....I swear today had been SUCH an off beat day...

reading that post, it's basically like I took my car to a mechanic and told him it's making a noise.

Well, I'm just looking for a Radio shop, something that carries a nice selection of antennas, radios...etc. Any more of an explanation would have to wait until tomorrow when I could actually think. Sorry about the first post lol.

Try the phone number first

I am pretty sure he moved or shut down. I recall the building they were in was up for landmark status or something and suddenly the store was gone. The building is now vacant.

I have heard that AES in Wisconsin and Ham Station in Indiana are prbably the only others. Fry's Electronics in I think it is Downers Grove is on Finley off Butterfeld Road but it is pricey.

You are better off with internet ordering really.

No problem. If you are a HAM, he had a ton of stuff. But scanners were yaesu or Icon primarily. Once in a while Uniden would be on a shelf. Hours near the end weren't as posted. You needed to call and make sure you got a human voice first. I must have had bad luck. Almost every time I went there he didn't have what I was looking for but could order it. I could do the same....in my opinion for less $$$$$. I stopped even going.

If you are a HAM I still hear him on a DuPage County HAM freq once in a while.

Yeah I figured as much, I actually got my BR330t from Fry's....but wanted to see if there was a place that would allow me to test a few antennas...I think I'm just going to buy the 209SMA...

Dude,

2 things. I see you are in Niles. I have been known to frequent the area of Milwaukee & Devon...down near Normandy. I just bought SMA UHF antennas and BNC UHF antennas from www.scannermaster.com and they work very, very well. They are Antennex Tuff Duck style. I am very pleased with those. And, considering we go out to shop, eat, etc., in Niles the coverage with stock or those antennas have been really good.

I was informed that Penninger Radio would be carrying some amateur radio and scanner products in the near future. Right now he carries a lot of masts, clamps, and tripods. But he's going to stock more radio products. I'm sure many have seen him at local hamfests, as he's been at every one I've attended in the past few years.
