Bought me WS1065, installed drivers for windows 11 on new laptop, connected just fine via ARC500 Basic and with subscription to Radio Reference downloaded then uploaded to scanlist 1 all the Conventional freq for my city/county. And once every few minutes I get an automated voice about some agency. No police, no fire? Here is the dumb newbie question. How come police frequencies are not listed?

How do I get police/fire frequencies in my city?

PS IF I use an iphone app like 5-0 Radio or Police Scanner Radio I can listen to local police and fire and there is alot of traffic.

Welcome to RadioReference!

The police/fire are on the
East Bay Regional Communications System (EBRCS). This is a trunked system. You are programming only the conventional frequencies.

Note: Some of the talkgroups on this system are Phase II (denoted by T in the Mode column). The WS1065 receives Phase I, but not Phase II. (Phase I talkgroups are identified by "D" in the Mode column). A majority of the talkgroups are Phase I, so you should be able to monitor most of the system. And of course, anything listed as DE or TE is encrypted - which cannot be monitored by any scanner.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

Thanks RMason! Now I see each of the agencies I'm searching for. Wow, there are many, many TalkGroups. Can I assign each agency to a separate ScanList in ARC500? Asked another way how would you setup 100s of TalkGroups so you could decide to turn certain groups off if you wanted?

Did some more research. Pleasanton/Livermore fire and police have both converted to encrypted transmissions so that is a dead end. Enjoying my simple WS1065 to listen to BART, Stoneridge Mall and other LPDs. Works great. Separately setting up P25 Phase II via SDRTrunk and pair of dongles so see if I can catch a few more trunks that are not encrypted in the area. Fun project!
