Over the last three days I’ve submitted almost a dozen geotags and radius submissions for numerous counties all along the I-65 (Mobile – Montgomery) and I-85 West Point – Atlanta) interstates and a few more for counties in Alabama and Florida. Tagging doesn’t take long but it would be cool if RR had a main map that users could access to see what still needed to be tagged. A good example would be like what is listed on the HomePatrol web site. http://www.homepatrol.com/images/blog/blogimage002.jpg

I would like to bring this up again. I noticed while going through some of the counties in Power Patrol that many of the ranges are set way too far. If you are using the GPS with the Home Patrol, the end user will be in for nothing but static for 10-15 minutes before they come in closer. Also, many times you need multiple ranges and locations set. For example if you are coming into a county from the east, you would want the east PD channel to come on before the west channel.

Many of us (including myself) have spent a lot of time geo-tagging locations for our Uniden T & XT radios, and had I not purchased a Home Patrol, I would have never known just how off some of these ranges are.

I have been working for a while now on GPS stuff for Iowa. I have everything done at the county/town/city level and starting on all the TRS systems in the state. Lucky enough, I also own a Home Patrol so the bigger problem systems are easily found.

Many of the geotags were manually set from basically nothing in order for the HomePatrol to be released at all. With the tens of thousands of entries which need attention I'm amazed that it was done even to this level by this early date. We can all work together on our own local areas to improve the quantity and accuracy of the geotag and frequency/talkgroup data.

One issue that's been mentioned is that systems with east and west dispatchers should have separate geotag data. On conventional systems that's not much of a problem but with trunked systems the sub-groups must have their geotag entirely within the confirmed LCN's master geotag position/range. And I'm not sure the HP-1 will not just ignore the smaller sub-group's geotags and just use the LCN's range/location.

Must point out the good work by Erik in New Mexico. In the matter of a week or so, he has updated all the geotags on the county level in the entire state, and made a big dent in the smaller entities. I don't know what all is entailed, but just the undertaking is worth our thanks.
