Hi,

I would like to add a swivel feature to a scanner antenna that does not
swivel

I know a very few handheld scanner antennas come with one already built in,
but does anyone know of a source (assuming they exist) for a BNC to BNC that swivels between them ?

I guess that I can use two right-angle BNC's, but would rather use a swiveling BNC, assuming they are available at all ? Looked, but couldn't find any source on the web.

BTW: any opinions on whether this degrades any signals, etc. to a "meaningful" extent on the UHF signals ?

Thanks,
B.

I am not aware of any present or past models that have or had this feature.

If you really want it - a double male and double female adapter combined will give this capability to your scanner bnc antenna connector. The double male adpater has this swivel characteristic and the double female will be needed to get the duck on the scanner.

I dont think it will have a noticable effect on received signals.

Wrong type of swivel, I believe he means able to bend/tilt 90 degrees.

Its possible I have mis-interpreted his swivel peference but then why did he state " I guess that I can use two right-angle BNC's " ?

Two right angle bnc's will put him back on the same verticle plane that he started from.

BOBRR please clarify.

Two right angle BNC adapters will also let you turn the antenna vertical with the scanner on its back or turn the antenna down so you do not poke yourself with the scanner on your belt.

That certainly will not help reception
If that antenna is pivoted to be vertical I would imagine it would.

It is an old ham trick designed to keep from gouging yourself with the antenna of a handheld on your belt. When someone calls, the operator removes the handheld from his belt, pivots the antenna up, and answers.

From OP Re Pix's

Hi Guys,

Thanks for all the responses and the pix.

Guess the pix is pretty much what I was thinking of.

Wanted to have a way of possibly being able to keep the scanner itself flat, like in bed or on a table perhaps, and the antenna, of course, vertical.

Thanks,
Bob

OK BOBRR - I guess thats what through me off was your reference to " use two right-angle BNC's " when one would actually do what you wanted.

If you want a connection that actually rotates, get a BNC/F (F is used for cell phones) combination. There may be some signal loss, but not enough to notice with a scanner. You will need both Male/Female and Female/Male combinations, and it will look similar to the photographs above. "Test drive" the connections at the store. The connectors should be found at the usual stores.

Indeed. One of them would work just fine for the OP's needs.
Not really.

One right angle adapter leaves the user with antenna that is always at a right angle to the scanner axis as long as it is connected. Two form a joint that allows the antenna to be swiveled to many more positions without disconnecting it. The OP was looking for a swivel.

Yes, they do, but I've found that, for some reason, the BNCs I've used are stiffer (tighter tolerances?) than the F connectors. It may depend on which vendor the retailer used and when they were bought.
