• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Hello, I don’t know a whole lot about CB radio. I picked up a cobra mini 19, k40 antenna and I bought a Swan SWR-1a SWR meter. This one is missing the switch that a lot of other meters I’ve seen have. Is this only for ham radio or can I use it to tune my CB? Thanks

Yes you can. One side views fwd power, the other reflected. Key the mic, rotate the knob looking at the left meter and set to 5w. Read the right to see reflected pwr.

It doesn't need a switch. The switch on the single meter SWR meters is for switching between forward power and reflected power. Since yours had two meters, one of which shows forward power (the "power" meter on the left), and a second meter that shows SWR, you are good to go.

On the left meter, it'll show you the RF output of the radio.
The meter on the right will show you the SWR

Just bought one of these. Instructions are awful for new user.

There are other videos with more depth.

Get a jumper or two. Keep meter, FS antenna & jumpers + instructions in a container of some sort. Include some connectors also. Make these dedicated to the meter.

I use a zippered bag bought at Home Depot or Lowe’s from tool department.

— DVM, clamp ammeter, etc, and some dedicated hand tools + supply in a larger zip-top tool bag. (Small stuff in ziplocks).

This Gladstone-style bag is accessory to my main tool bag used on the road.

Radio + Speaker & Misc into a Harbor Freight 2800 or 3800 Apache transport case. It is along wherever radio is mounted (same as radio tool/supply bag).

Attend this end of things earliest. Damage is mighty frustrating, and avoidable given it occurs most often moving radio to/from vehicle. (Same for all other gear).
