• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I have a XTL5000 and I'm looking for someone who has the necessary tools to help me upgrade the radio. My Flash now is so minimal that i can't do anything really. I have no Trunking keys or Ibuttons, I have the cable and can read the radio just fine, just can't program the radio to what i need it to do. I know the laws on using the radio for personal use and not to do anything stupid (i.e. talking on a police frequency). If anyone can help. please let me know. Radio Specs below.

Flashcode 500008-000480-0
Package: G51 SMARTzone

What are you trying to program in that the radio won't let you? Besides being a frequency range that that is pretty useless outside of public safety I don't see any issues with the flashcode that would prevent you from being able to program it. If you're trying to program in a trunk system you don't have authorization for that has nothing to do with the radio or it's features. You have trunking available in the flashcode so talk to the system admin of the system you need and you can have them authorize your radio on their system. If you're not supposed to be on their system and you were able to program it in your radio will become a very fancy paperweight very quickly...

Just trying to get Local PD and State PD on listen only. Pretty much scanner. I have frequency's programed but not hearing anything. Don't know if is a Trunking problem or what. Can't flash the radio because of no syskeys, no Flashcodes found or Ibuttons found.

I work in the security industry, a scanner is just not good enough.

"good enough" for what?

You can't add this radio to someone else's trunking system. That's not legal on many levels. If you want access to a trunked system, the only way to do that is work through the system administrator. The system admin is the only one who can legally give you a system key.

If you want to just listen to a trunked system, then really, get a scanner. Setting up non-affiliate scan takes a lot of knowledge and screwing it up will get your radio bricked, and maybe a visit from the FCC with a side of hefty fines: https://docs.fcc.gov/public/attachments/DOC-389269A1.pdf

If you want to listen in on a conventional system, then you don't need a system key. Radio will need to be the correct band and programmed correctly. Also, please remember, that even as an employee of a company, you cannot add radios to their system. That has to be approved by the licensee, and that is well documented by the FCC.

Many people will be happy to help you out, but you'd have to tell us exactly what it is you are attempting to accomplish here.

I got my answer from someone. I was informed that my local PD went encrypted or phase II and won't be able to listen in. I would be happy to take the mic and throw it away. All im trying to do is listen in. I got the radio cheap and thought it would work. Ive worked with ham, first Motorola I've owned. Just trying to get educated. And F the FCC, they can kiss it. If they wanna come after one person using a frequency just to listen on, they know where I live.
