Read the trunking Wiki then come back with more specific questions...

<humph> rdale if you're going to send someone to read something, the least you can do is to tell them how to get to it...'nuff said

As to that - Fritzy, hit 'wiki' in the top blue toolbar. Under 'forum specific topics' scroll down to the 'trunking' link. I'd read the basics first, then when you understand that, move on to the other FAQs listed there. You didn't say what system you were trying to program. This is a critical piece of information needed before someone can help.

I hhave looked at wiki. It didn't help me. I find trunked radio systems that say--seattle FD 1616-ATG; 1648-a-01 fire response; etc. How do you program these? I have a RS pro-433. Thanks for ANY help.

Join this free group. There is a simple explanation of trunking and step by step programming instructions. Click FILES, left side of home page.

Geezus people! It's a simple question, you could of at least answered it, and then suggested he go read the wiki to understand what part of the talkgroup info to enter in.

Fritzy... IGNORE the HEX... For motorola trunked systems you'll only need to enter in what ever is in the DEC column.

For example... SFFD-A1 Dispatch Division 1 Control 1 the talkgroup is going to be 14800

So follow your scanner's instruction manual on entering talkgroup id's and when it calls for you to enter the talkgroup in, punch in 14800 and save it. When you are in scan mode (the - symbol showing, not the + symbol) then when ever traffic comes up on SFFD Dispatch Division 1 Control 1, you'll hear it.

Also, when you're in the database and looking at all of the trunking information for san francisco, hover your mouse cursor over the top of each column where it says HEX DEC MODE DISPLAY DESCRIPTION... When you do that, an additional popup bubble will appear explaining what each column is for, and who should use it. For instance when you hover over the word DEC it says that this column is used for the talkgroup id for trunk tracker scanners. and so forth.

base frequency? I don't know that term in trunking.

If you're asking what the frequencies are for San Francisco's trunked system you can see them at the same place you saw all of the hex/dec info on the database. You program all of the frequencies there as a MOT mode for motorola trunked. then once you have all of the frequencies programmed in as MOT you can begin SEARCH from in that bank. It should lock in with the MOT: CNTRL on the display.

You should begin hearing conversations and seeing talkgroup id's come across your screen. Keep in mind that system is mixed P25 and Analog. So if you hear a bunch of noise and static when you hear transmissions, it means you'll need a new scanner that will do APCO25 P25 digital. The PRO-96, 2096, GRE PSR-500, Uniden BCD396 and BCD996 are all digital.
