No idea but check the 380-406 MHz range. Most federal prisons have trunk systems within that range.

??

Try a little higher - 406 to 420 MHz. 380 - 406 is the Department of Defense spectrum...

Not any more. The 380 to 406 band has been opened up for non-Defense Department use and several federal prisons are already using those frequencies. Supposedly, the move is to free up the 406-420 area for Homeland Defense.

SAR2401,

You said some prisons are already using freqs in the 380 - 406 band.
What prisons are you refering to?
What freqs are they using?

Regards,

John

Every one I've logged so far is on 406-420 MHz trunked or conventional. So I would be very interested in finding out which federal prisons are using the 380-400 MHz band...

Sorry, guys, I'm going to have to plead ignorance since at least one facility in Utah is on a 380 MHz trunk system but the information has mysteriously disappeared, or at least I can't find it. If you look at the chart at http://www.ntia.doc.gov/osmhome/Chp04Chart.pdf you'll see that the 380 to 406 band is now just a generic "federal government" band. I don't think there are any frequencies in that band that are reserved exclusively for the DOD any longer but I'm willing to be proved wrong. Most federal prisions do operate in the 406 to 420 band but, according to one person who has reason to know, the prisons still operating on VHF will be moved to the 380 to 406 band, all digital and all encrypted.

OK, thanks.

For what it's worth, the US Bureau of Prisons has no federal prison facilities in Utah.

I was referring to the CCM office in SLC. They operate on a trunking system but my contact there has retired so I can't give you the exact frequencies.

Does anyone have the frequencies for the Federal Prison in Talladega?

OK, vincent714028 - Back to the original question about the Talladega Federal Correctional Institution, search around between 406 - 420 MHz - oh, heck, search the 380-400 MHz band, too, and see if you find a trunking control channel in there somewhere. Let us know if you find anything.

Further on Talladega Federal Prison

Yesterday was in Talladega. Parked down the road a ways from the site and started the spectrum sweep on my TRX-1. Started sweeping everything and narrowed it down based on what I was and wasn't hearing.

Kept getting hits (either silence or "data" noise) and stored the following freqs:

791.4425
791.5000
791.5025
791.5050
792.5800
792.5875

Got no hits in any other band that I didn't recognize. The signals were full strength. I live 11 miles from there (line of sight) so at some point I'll start trying to enter these as a system (maybe?) and/or try different modes to see if I can hear anything. I'm definitely open to any suggestions.

Just wanted to go ahead and post them in case someone else had time to play with them.

BTW - the sweeper stored the freqs in my default scan list. I have highlighted them and changed the scan list number multiple times to multiple lists, but they still only appear in the default list. Anyone know how to move them?

Tom,

What are they images of? And what tells you that they're images? Not questioning your statement, just want to understand more about it.

And BTW, I stopped and restarted EZScan and the frequencies moved just fine.

Sorry for the false alarm. I'll try and spend some more time sweeping over there when I can and see if I can come up with something usable. Would really like to be able to hear them.
