hey all, thanks to Tweekerbob I am up and running with my feed! I am using tgm for the 246 but with my BCT15 and it works, kind of, lol ... here is my question, I have all the frequencies in my titles.txt file and when the scanner is on hold or I change channels manually it sends it fine (to simplecast that is, i'm still trying to get it all working with oddcasts new metadata feature) BUT when I am scanning, it sends *all* of the titles out ... I have tried the -s option with tgm but it still does it ... any ideas? thanks! -Matt

edit: also i have tried adding the line "scanning, scanning..." to the titles.txt file as well as 0's and blank spaces and "SCAN,scanning..." but no luck :(

Yep, I had the same problem with a 996T with conventional frequencies, and I never did solve the problem, other than to use a different scanner (BC898T) with conventional frequencies.

If you use your BCT15 to scan an EDACS system with talkgroups, I bet you'll find the entries in tiltles.txt behave properly, probably because with an EDACS system the scanner is constantly receiving all those control frequencies.

With the 996, Simplecast, TalkgroupMonitor 246T and Icecast to stream conventional frequencies, the tags in titles.txt were correct when the frequency was active, but spat out a constant stream of tags when the 996 was scanning, but not actively receiving a signal.

I did bring this problem up with Gordon of Scangwinnet in this forum http://www.scangwinnett.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&p=106430 but he never did have a solution. The problem is that not too many feeders use this 'older' type of of streaming and there's not a big push to keep these programs problem free and functional with these newer scanners. I still think it's terrific and does an excellent job. Some of these left/right speaker set ups are far too difficult to listen to, and teamspeak involves too much work for most listeners. Anyway, this older tiltles.txt thing is perfect for my purposes.

If you do ever come up with a solution, please let me know.

Cheers
Peter

well, thanks for the reply! I'm glad I'm not alone on this one ... I'll keep playing with it and see if I can come up with some kind of solution... The closest county with a trunked system is 40 miles away and I can only pick it up from my aparment on good days lol ... anyways, good luck to you as well. -Matt

edit: lexxx, i brought the thread back to life :) we'll see if anyone replys

I've started working on the version of Talkgroup Monitor again that works with the 246T, 996T, BCT-15, and other scanners that use the same communications protocol and I've posted a new version on my web site tonight (the "Talkgroup Monitor 2.1" version).

For the most part, the only thing new in this new version is the ability to send titles directly to an Icecast server (like the 245xlt version of Talkgroup Monitor) for those that don't have or want to use SimpleCast.

The new version probably has the same problem you're describing since I don't see the problem myself using a 246T or 996T, probably since I only use the program with scanners monitoring a trunk system.

To help me figure out why the problem you're seeing is occurring, run Talkgroup Monitor with the -v option with the output redirected to a file (like "monitor -v > output.txt") and then e-mail the file and your titles.txt file to me at gordon@scangwinnett.com.

On the downloads page the link above takes you to, Talkgroup Monitor 1.4 is the version that used to be called just "Talkgroup Monitor", it's the version that works with the 245xlt, 785xlt, 895xlt, etc. Talkgroup Monitor 2.1 is the version that used to be called "Talkgroup Monitor 246T", this version works with Uniden's newest scanners (the 246T, 996T, BCT-15, etc).

FYI, version 2.2 is up now.

The new version supports a new configuration parameter that lets you specify that a special title should be sent to Icecast/SimpleCast after a certain amount of time passes with no audio. I also made it so that this same special title is sent when the program exits as well instead of sending "Scanning..." always.

I don't need output from the older version, only from the newer version if there are any problems.

Thanks!

Version 3.0 is now available at http://www.scangwinnett.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownload&cid=4

Changes in this version:

I combined both versions of the program into a single version, this version should work with all of Uniden's scanners that can be computer controlled.

This new version supports a scanner remote control command that Uniden added to the scanners manufactured after the 246T (such as the 396T, 996T, BCT-15, etc) which allows the program to pick-up talkgroup and frequency information from the scanner a little quicker (you probably won't be able to tell a different though).

The program is now distributed as a setup package instead of a zip file.

Serproxy is installed by the setup package, you don't need to download it separately anymore, you will need to start it separately though before starting the Talkgroup Monitor program.

Both versions now use the same format for the Titles.txt file. If you are currently using the version that works with older Uniden scanners (like the 245xlt) you'll need to modify your existing file to use the newer format. Instead of putting "ID S nnnnn" in the file for talkgroup nnnnn you'll just put nnnnn in there.

I added lots of comments to the configuration file (monitor.cfg) and to the titles file describing the different configuration parameters and the titles file format.

When you start the program a few commands are sent to your scanner to determine automatically what protocol your scanner uses and which commands should be used to monitor the scanner.
