Evidently we're all scanner junkies if we're on this form. Perhaps you're just a hobbyist, or perhaps it makes your living. But since we listen for so many hours, we likely all have a specific dispatcher that jumps out from the rest. Perhaps he/she actually has a personality, or just some other unique characteristic. Who's your favourite dispatcher?

I'll start with a couple of mine.. There's a really funny woman in Toronto Police 41 division. She'll make some really funny comments when you least expect them.. about other officers, a suspect, etc. Another great one is a dispatcher for York Police up in District 1. She was on the night that the elephants got loose yet couldn't even bring herself to a single chuckle - "10-4, that's one outstanding elephant traveling northbound Crossland Gate", I won't forget that line for a while yet!

Alright, so perhaps a pointless thread, but nonetheless.........

I also remember a dispatcher calling out for an alarm call, motion sensor, thus being already 4 alarm calls in an hour. The constable says to the sergeant on the radio "Looks like Trailer park boys are at it again". "Anybody see bubbles?"

lol

There is a guy At Smithsfalls who always adds a "Ah i knew you where the right guy for the job" or some other remark like that when officers clear calls. He keeps things on lighter side and always seems to be cool calm and collected.

Now don't quote me on this, but this sounds like the guy named Marty (I think that's his name), very casual, and very calm at all times on the radio.

Back in the old NOR days, there was a dispatcher in the Chatham OPP detachment that would mimic that 'Braaaaak' sound you would occassionally hear after a tower call when the sqawking would start back up again. Did it like clockwork every time he was on... "Chatham Comm Centre Clear, 16:35...Braaaaaak!" There is also a Thames EMS dispatcher in London... Bert I believe his name is.... This guy is cool as a cucumber. All hell will be breaking loose at some big event and he's cooler than the other side of the pillow with some quick wit to ease the tension.

I've met Bert a couple of times, he's by far one of the most level-headed dispatchers I've heard.

Here in Toronto, there's another dispatcher who has a southern-US accent (who sounds identical to a Buffalo ADI dispatcher) whom is probably my favourite. She has a relaxed way of operating the desk which I think the officers like (it's certainly entertaining to listen to) but when it comes down to it, she's very efficient and rarely asks an officer to repeat anything, even when they're putting over a lot of information quickly.

There's an OPP dispatcher that I haven't heard for awhile...he used to work out of the Burlington PCC, then moved up to Aurora and now in Orillia. He's got a slight French-Canadian accent (or so it sounds), and is very efficient in the way he does business on the air, very straight and to the point.

Overheard on a trunk a few years ago:

Officer: "28 and 9 on surname J-A-C-K-S-O-N.... given one of Michael... common spelling... given two of Russell.... born 28... 09... 69"

Dispatch: "10-4....."

*a few moments later*

Dispatch: "Your party is 10-68... possession with intent... out of Peel Region... also wanted for sleeping with minors... and the worst music videos ever made..."

:D

Worlds Most Polite Dispatcher

We all know the dispatchers move around divisons. But there is 1 that stands out with me.
She is the most polite person I have ever heard. She sounds like she should be working in a library or something and would crack under pressure, but she stays in control and is very professional. A P/O signing off would get a 'well you have yourself a wonderfull evening'..... Im sure u all have heard her!!! NOW about some of those new Toronto Fire Dispatchers, I can hardly understand a few of them. Im sure they have had complaints about them.

For the ones who know Bert from the London CACC, they really didn't want him there. He comes from the old Woodstock Ambulance service when we had our own dispatch. Bert was almost left out when they switch to the centralized dispatch. He is very calm cool and collected all the time plus his humour is always appreciated. I've known Bert for close to 20 years and have worked with his son for about 4 years.

Ya, that damm multi-culturalism in Toronto is making it hard for Nec208 to understand what is going on. Maybe he should go to city hall and speak to those in power and ask for more Anglo dispatchers.
