Works real well for me. I could not believe the difference over the stock antenna.

Me, too. I mounted one on top of an old photo light stand in my home office and it's doing a great job.

One could easily build a similar antenna, but for the price it wasn't worth fooling around with DIY. I see that they are still available on Ebay for about $13 including shipping. Just search for "Maxrad System".
