• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Is the radio new? Then no. Is the radio several years old? Then yes.

Most likely you will need Mototrbo CPS 2.0

For a Motorola XPR7550e radio that has recently shipped, CPS 2.110.120.0 will be needed for programming. This is ran on several Dell and Panasonic Toughbooks, all running a version of Windows 10, but CPS 2.0 will work on Windows 7 as well. This software is slow, even with a cable so I do not even bother with Bluetooth tethering a PC and radio for programming. I use USB programming cables, PMKN4013C and a newer USB cable PMKN4012B Rev B dated 11/22 for programing XPR7550e radios.

I thought CPS 2.0 removed Bluetooth programming capability.

Yes, for clarification, 2.0 did remove Bluetooth, that was more a response if 16.0 was being used (which would be more for XPR7550 radios not the "e" versions). "e" versions need CPS 2.0, or at least the ones I have received for the past 3 years, all have been some version of CPS 2.0.

New "e" versions ship needing CPS 2.0. Absolutely not required for the ones that came out before that. I have a whole fleet of 7550e radios using CPS 16.

I’ve actually found that “Bluetooth” reading and writing is faster than USB on my r2.09 CPS 16 setup. Or…is Wifi reading/writing a third, separate option from Bluetooth? This has always confused me. I need to click the Bluetooth button in CPS, but then get my radio on Wifi and define an IP address, then read/write. That has always been MUCH faster than USB in my experience. But I don’t think it’s actually communicating over Bluetooth.

From the Release notes ---
Version: M2022.01
Date: June 17, 2022

Radio Management / CPS - 2.126.157.0 (NEW)
MOTOTRBO 2.0, 2.5 (incl SL Series) - XPR 7000/5000/3000 Series,
XPR 7000e/5000e/3000e Series, SL 7000/7000e Series, XPR 2500,
SL3500e, R7 - R02.22.01.1004 (NEW)

--------------------------------
To install any release of Firmware after 2.10 (2019) requires an active ESS/SUM entitlement on the subscriber. This can be purchased for n number of years and new subscribers will have a 5 year (I think that's right) entitlement included.

Old firmware, even back to R1.12.17 can be supported from a Code plug / Configuration view point on current CPS/RM, But Newer Firmware requires the same or newer version of CPS / RM.

The last version released with the older CPS (16 Build 828) is R02.09 (2018)....

Radio Management is also free, and if you find yourself frequently programming your XPR7550e, using RM to program the radio over WiFi is really slick. There are a few ways to get there, but I used CPS and a cable to initially add the WiFi config to my 7550e. From that point on, the radio automatically connects to my WiFi, obtains an IP address over DHCP, and can be programmed using RM.

I did add a DHCP reservation into my firewall so that the radio always gets the same IP address, but I don't think that is required.

If you wish, you can program a button on the radio to turn WiFi on and off.

The same method can be used for WiFi programming via CPS 16. Simply enable 'bluetooth' mode and enter the IP address of the radio. DHCP reservations can make it easier.

Bluetooth mode should more properly be called TCP/IP mode

Totally agree. Took me a minute to figure that one out years ago. And yes, I keep all the radios on a static lease, with the non-display models having a long press button to enable/disable Wifi. Makes programming a breeze.

Generally EID's have to be purchased through a Motorola dealer. But the Wideband EID is free through Motorola Myview website, you have to watch a 15 minute online tutorial then you can add it and download it to your computer and program wideband
