To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

OK.....I have never done this in a dual band set-up. I have done plenty of each by themselves. Here is how I have it set......TK-730 has the KRK-4DB dual port front, TK-630H has the single port KRK-2 plate. Which one do i set as radio-1 and which is radio-2? When I program in the highband freq's evrything is OK on TX and RX, but any lowband stuff I put on the radio acts lik VCO is out of lock. I can set the 630 radio back to singleband and everything is fine from 42-54 MHz.It seems as if all the freq's are going into the highband radio. Can someone give me some guidance on programming the dualband correctly?? It will be slack set-up and I will have 2-meter, 6-meter with advanced head......if this programming gets sorted out.

Does anyone have the KRK 4DB instruction manual? I need it if someone can.

Thanks!

Hooked up but not quite right.

I have located a manual.....much thanks to Jason by the way!!! It is hooked up correctly but is still not working. I am using a KRK-4DB for the radio-1 and a regular KRK-2 for the radio-2. Is the single opening KRK-4DB unit for radio-2 the same as a KRK-2? They both have single openings but might be different.

It's been a while since I did my Dual-Band set-up, but I ran into a problem where it seemed that everything was set up correctly, but it still didn't work. It turned out that you have to have specific EEPROMs installed in each radio that may vary from what they had in them before.

According to an old email I have, I ordered the following EEPROMs, so it would seem that this is what you need to have:

Order
Qty. Price Part No. Description
----- ------- ------------ -----------------------------------------------
1 39.45 27C256Q-JPYJ FAB DUAL BAND RADIO 1 EPROM TK-630 TK-730 TK-830
1 39.45 27C256Q-JPZJ FAC DUAL BAND RADIO 2 EPROM TK-630 TK-730 TK-830

I ordered these from www.kenwoodparts.com, and these prices are still the same.

As for the KRK-2 vs single-head portion of the KRK-4DB, I don't know if they're different or not, so this may be your problem, too. Sorry about that!

I hope this helps!

Have a great day,
-Radar
