I could see the problem with using a real amateur call sign, but the rest of the show was totally wrong! I won't rehash what others' have posted, you all saw how stupid NCIS was this time.
Hopefully they don't do something like that on the NCIS, L.A. version.

I've never been a fan of NCIS. The few times I've tried to watch, the concept of the show seems to be take a serious situation and turn it into a comedy.

Last night's episode was no exception. I had DVR'd it and only got about 15 minutes into the show before I stopped the replay and deleted the episode.

I guess I'm not the target audience for the NCIS writers and producers. But, I find that to be the case with much of scripted television these days.

First, I didn't see the show and second I'm not an amateur radio operator, but...

I suspect the everyday, boring life of an amateur radio operator wouldn't make good television.

I also suspect when they do a show about carpenters or doctors or (insert occupation) it's also filled with half-truths and mistakes as well.

Yep! My dad’s a paramedic and I’m tangentially involved in EMS and we get annoyed all the time by so of these shows.

Wait, the entire show makes a farce of law enforcement but you guys expected them to pay some sort of highly technical homage to an obscure hobby?

Sure why not? Last Man Standing seems to have gotten it right by all accounts.

One of the producers of Last Man Standing was an amateur radio operator. Therein lies the difference.

As for NCIS generally presenting a farcical view of law enforcement and criminal investigation, I'm glad someone else feels that way. How, then, do you explain the show's popularity and the multiple spin-offs? Are you saying the viewing public isn't bright enough to see through the distortions? Hmmm...how long has this been going on? ;)

If the intent was for accuracy they could have gone actually for a temporary call sign from the FCC specifically for the show and actually used real hooked up equipment and technical operators not Tim. Being the geek that Tim used to portray I am not surprised (BTW Belasarious's kid). Even if the target audience wasn't Ham operators they could set up a net for actual call traffic as background, and I did notice that the one plus was Tim stated that Ham operators were kinda the saviours after Katrina for communications.

I agree that the producers poke fun at LE, (a 803 aka stolen grocery cart) requires a code 3 response and also takes a LE away from a BOLO stakeout for a murder suspect, and I guess the producers think NCIS is the only real police agency. Come on Mark really! Your best season was 1 they rest are like bad remakes of a good movie.

I think overall the show is way long in the tooth, actors are dropping out left and right, and now Abby's leaving soon too. It also shows how perplexed the characters can be when I figured out the show story line 15 min in.
