I was hoping for one last good thunderstorm for the season, but the storms were moving NNE and missed Oakland County. The loss of life though is terrible.

Two were killed northeast of Lansing, they went to bed in their doublewide, during a tornado warning, when their town was specifically listed in the path of the confirmed tornado...

I saw that on the news this evening. It was their first night in their new home. Sad.

We were fortunate in Macomb. What ever happened, I slept through it. This morning all my leaves were gone.

Very sad news. These are the first tornado deaths in Michigan since 1997. These are also the only October tornado deaths in Michigan since records have been kept, 1950-present.

So far, 11 confirmed tornadoes were reported across Michigan. According to the Gaylord NWS office, two tornadoes up in their area cut a .25 mile wide path, while another twister was .50 mile wide just northwest of Luzerne, in Oscoda County. Thankfully, these storms missed the heavily poplated areas, and stayed over mostly rural areas.

Michigan faired better than expected that day. SPC had predicted a moderate risk for severe weather that day for most of Michigan . More importantly the tornado threat was 15%+ "hatched" which meant violent tornadoes were possible. This was similar to the severe weather event we had back in late October of 2001. That day we were high risk for severe weather/violent tornadoes possible and tornadic storms entered SELM, one damaged a high school near by. Luckily it hit about 8pm.

Actually it was worse than expected - most of the tornadoes occurred north where we didn't think we'd see much rotation.
