Okay, so Miller wouldn't let the City have a helicopter, but he let them have a fixed-wing aircraft?

I've heard an airplane used by MSS/Gangs & Guns for the better part of a year, but I had always figured it was a rental... I guess not.

You likely won't hear anything from TPS. They work on the digital (and often encrypted) talkgroups on the TPS system.

Since we are on the subject of MSS, does anybody know what the numbers represent for the conventional MSS channels? Eg. MSS 150, MSS 350, MSS 1050 etc...

Nothing really.

They have 150, 250, 350, etc... all up to 1050. Those are A1-A10, they have B1-B6, C1-C4 and D1-D5.

I see. I thought they had some kind of meaning because they don't look like normal channel numbers like ch1,ch2,ch3...etc

Are the "C" and "D" channels listed in the RR database? I can't seem to find them....or am I just blind today?

Some of those are also voice channels on surrounding trunked systems. B5 I think is a voice channel on the YRP system, so make sure you program the PL tones as well.

MSS is the "elite surveillance unit" of the Intelligence Bureau.

It stands for Mobile Support Services. MSS is a pretty generic term these days. Under the MSS "umbrella", you'll find:

Investigative Support Services
Mobile Support Services
Technical Support Services
Gangs & Guns Task Force
Toronto Drug Squad
Toronto Vice Squad

umong a few others.

Basically think of MSS as being long-term surveillance. The divisional MCU guys only have so many resources, once it becomes a long-term project, it goes to MSS. I've heard MSS channels active all over Ontario. I was camping in Algonquin a few years back and had heard MSS active on MSS650 (used a lot by intelligence) in Huntsville.

These frequencies can be used in "Long" or "Short" mode. Long = repeater, Short = Simplex.
