Are the Division Tactical channels used much? Don't bash, I don't follow TPS very much... Just wondered if these are for special events (eg. Shooting, car jacking) to free up the main channel for other dispatching? I know with Peel they stay on the main channel when a major occurrence takes place...

I hear them swear a hell of a lot more of TAC channels... I'm pretty sure they use them for special events and such.

The tac channels are used for surveilance. Some are quite active....if you can follow the lingo ! I don't think the tacs are monitored by a dispatcher, not sure though, hence the colourful language. The division channels are very active, this is where all the action is. For special events, they use the "temp" channels.

Every talkgroup is recorded, but they aren't all monitored. The system TPS uses for recording records all voice channel activity and keeps a log of the control channel. At any time, they can "recreate" voice comms from the data on the control channel log and the voice channels.

The only time a dispatcher gets alerted of activity on a non-monitored talkgroup is if someone hits their emergency button.
