The victims' names were withheld pending notification of family.

However, state police Sgt. Rod Huffman said both of those killed were from Fort Collins, Colo., where they worked in emergency medical services.

The crash occurred just after 8 a.m. Huffman said the driver of an eastbound vehicle may have fallen asleep and drifted into the median, then overcorrected and crashed into a westbound pickup truck that was carrying the victims.

Paramedic, wife identified as Larimer County couple in fatal N.M. crash

BY NATE TAYLOR • NateTaylor@coloradoan.com • January 3, 2009

A Thompson Valley Emergency Medical Services captain and his wife have been identified as the two Larimer County residents who died in a Galup, N.M., car crash Friday morning.

Captain Todd Seek and his wife, Vaunda, died in the crash on Interstate 40. New Mexico state police said the driver of an eastbound vehicle may have fallen asleep and drifted into the median, then over-corrected and crashed into a westbound pickup truck that was carrying the local couple.

Seek, 47, was a paramedic captain with Loveland's Thompson Valley EMS for 24 years.

A New Mexico State Patrol spokesman said the Seeks were from Fort Collins. Public records list a Loveland address for them.

“He was an important part of our team. We have lost a great leader and I personally have lost a good friend. He will be missed,” said Randy Lesher, chief of the department. “Todd and Vaunda had many good friends in our organization and it’s a shock to us all. Our thoughts and prayers go out to their families.”
