Kentucky State Police have released more details of the deadly shooting that happened on Vine Street Tuesday morning.

"At approximately 10:35 the Bowling Green Police Department received a call from a female requesting that officers respond to 1036 Vine Street street for a subject brandishing a knife", says Kentucky State Police Trooper Todd Holder.

Three Bowling Green Police Officers responded to the call for assistance and encountered Rojelio Gonzalez-Pacheco armed with two knives.

Police say Gonzalez-Pacheco attacked Officer David Whitson.

"During the attack other responding officers used deadly force to protect Officer Whitson", says Holder.

During the altercation both Gonzalez- Pacheco and Whitson sustained gunshot wounds.

They were both transported to the Medical Center at Bowling Green where they later died as a result of injuries.

Rojelio Gonzalez-Pacheco was believed to have been a resident of Edmonton, Kentucky.

David Whitson was an eight-year veteran of the Bowling Green Police Department.

He was the first first Bowling Green police officer killed on the job.

"The loss of officer Whitson will be profoundly felt, not just by his family, colleagues and loved ones but also by our whole community", says Bowling Green Police Chief Doug Hawkins.

The two other officers who were on the scene, Officer Beldon Perry and Erik Woodward, have been placed on administrative leave as part of the police departments policy.

An autopsy for both Whitson and Pacheco have been scheduled for Wednesday morning.

Funeral services are still pending for Officer Whitson.

Bowling Green Police have placed a black cloth over a BGPD cruiser in memory of their fallen officer at headquarters.

American Bank and Trust has established a memorial fund for the family if you would like to make a contribution to Whitson's family.

Whitson is survived by his wife and children.

During these trying times I would ask all on RadioReference.com to please keep David and the entire Whitson family in your thoughts and prayers as well as the Bowling Green Police Department and the Bowling Green/Warren County community. David was a friend to everyone and took on challenges with courage and enthusiasm. May God look after David and his family forever.

Thank You
Captain David Page

Officer Whitson is now patrolling the golden streets of heaven with the officers that have gone before him. May he rest in peace. May his family, both in the blue and in the blood find comfort knowing he is the protector of you now. Watching your backs and being the guiding hand through the darkness of this world. May God bless all involved including the Dispatchers who went through the call with you and lived it over and over with every phone call received from Command, other officers and the media.

Be strong and keep the faith.

Your brother on the radio.

Thanks Ben for placing the link on this site for all to see. It is great. Joe Imel did a fantastic job. As David's supervisor I can tell all here that David loved what he did so much. He always accepted challenges and knew the risks. Most of all he loved his family and loved his BGPD family. Our hearts will be forever heavy with our loss but we can rest easy knowing that David is in a better place. God has assigned David his permanent beat. We appreciate everyone's thoughts and prayers and I know David and his family do. As I close, yet again, God has provided me another tear to shed. David, my friend, we will all see you again.

May God comfort Officer Whitson's family at their darkest hour and be
with them in the days to come. It's never easy when an officer dies in
the line of duty. My thoughts and prayers are with the family and the
Bowling Green Police Department. May God be with them and give them peace.
