I am going to be traveling to Reno in May. I am wondering what I could pick up out there. I am mainly interested in public safety. I will definantly program the Washoe County system but was wondering what else I could get. I have a Pro-96 so if anyone has a p96 file that they wouldn't mind sending to that would be great. If not I am just looking for an idea of what to program. Asking this early so I don't have to rush to do it at the last minute. Any help would be greatly appriciated.

Looking in the database a little more I know figure I need to also program in the Nevada Shared Radio System. With this system should I program in the Metro Washoe site? Also found an older post in here and it said with the Washoe system to program in the Red Peak site and that would cover the Reno/Sparks area. Is that still the case?

If you are going to be staying in the Reno metro area the Washoe system is the one to put in - the metro site is simulcast from Red Peak and Peavine mountain - all of the Reno Sparks law enforcement agencies are on that system from the sheriff to the dog catcher - as far as the NSRS there is not that much activity on it here as there is in the Vegas area - mostly Sierra Pacific Power and NDOT and occasionaly some NHP patch channels

Depending on what point of time in May your talking about, you might catch some good brush fires.

TM Main- 158.745
NDF Main- 158.895
White Fire 1-154.280
Air to Ground Primary- 165.25

These channels will get swamped with brush fire traffic if you get one going, so you might want to have those ready. Otherwise, WCRCS should have everything besides REMSA, which run on the Med channels, 10 is main Dispatch, 9 is careflight, 8 is Renown, 7 is St Marys, and 4 is a patch to a few of em.

Going at the end of May. Get in on the 23rd and leave the 27th. Bowling in the Nationals. This is my second time going to Reno for that. This time I am legal to gamble though :)

nice, yeah you should be able to catch at least one fire on those channels in your stay then

Just got back from my trip. I did catch a fire. As a matter of a fact I spotted it while we were flying in. Then as I was walking through the airport I saw two guys walking out of the Airport holding their turnout gear (Not sure if they were jumpers or what but they were flying in to help).

The first day I went to the bowling stadium to bowl some guy had passed out next to the parking deck. I got a couple of pics of Reno Truck 1 and Engine 2.

What suprised me was when the Reno FD got a report of a brush fire was how many units they sent. Around here if we get a call for a brush fire you might have 2 engines and 1 or maybe 2 brush units respond.

Wish I would have programed in (probably another V-Folder) some of Lake Tahoe. Went to South Lake Tahoe on Sat. It is very nice there. A helluva drive up the mountians to get there though. lol

There is a large difference in the ability of vegetation fires to spread between the western and eastern U.S. Lower humidities and more dead fuel among the greenery.

If you think the drive to Lake Tahoe crosses some mountains you should explore the Sierra Nevada more when you get the chance. You are probably talking about the Mt. Rose Highway which is located in the Carson Range and considered a small off-shoot of the Sierra Nevada. The east entrance to Yosemite National Park is fairly dramatic. For a real experience there are several dirt roads requiring 4WD that also have a high score as far as the "pucker factor." I'm referring to the amount of anxiety one feels due to elevation exposure, roughness of the road, and the need to side hill all at the same time.
