I am getting ready to return to Travis County. Last night, I started getting ready to trim a lot of pregnant "E" talk groups for APD.

Based on what I've read in various threads, the Austin area appears to be very accurate compared to other large cities.

So, I was pleasantly surprised to see that the "E" infection did not spread, yet.

I can damn sure live without dispatch talk groups, when they fade away.

I am hoping that APD has no plans for doing a "Ft. Worth."

Truthfully, if they keep all of the good stuff unadulterated, I will be a happier man.

I admit to being confused. I haven't had a chance to turn on my SDS100 since I got here. I see two listings for each dispatch TG. One is marked encrypted, the other isn't.

The uncrypted TGs are linked to Broadcastify, are the depreciated?

Years ago they had talked about going encrypted, but never did. I'm wondering if these talkgroups have always been linked, but no one caught them until now? I would've checked, but the computer I left logging on Pro96Com when I lived in Austin dies last year and I lost all of my logs from when I lived there.

There is thread posted back in April about this. Last I heard about it. The main quote

"
Austin PD has begun rolling out fully encrypted dispatch talkgroups running patched to the legacy groups currently. Units are reported to be in the process of switching over to the new talkgroups with a goal of full cutover by the end of the summer. Another big blow for government transparency to its taxpayers.....

You'll see the new groups in the database posted side by side with the legacy groups, but again, they are currently fully encrypted."

Thank you. I've been in the area for almost a week, but haven't had a spare minute to turn on the scanner.

currently the ENC and non-ENC APD patrol talkgroups are patched together. once all the radios are reprogrammed, expect the patch to drop.

Sorry, I have been busy. I did not check on the responses.

I was in and out of Austin. During my quick trip, the only talk groups I heard from APD were specific to schools & colleges & the airport. If my memory is correct, I believe the airport talk groups was tactical.

I did however, hear a juicy tail on a MA talk group. I heard Travis S.O. without any issues.

This reminds me of Harris County. Reportedly, the HPD dispatch channels are in the clear, but the ground units are not. Harris S.O. has limited encryption.

Thanks for the responses.

HPD is in the clear on the dispatch channels for both dispatch and field units, ALL of the tac channels are fully encrypted. Same for HFD.

Well, it was in the recent past I was in Houston. Due to my fairly advanced age, I "thought" I recall hearing both. However, someone who I consider to be a reliable source of information told me ground units were encrypted.

Thank you so much for clearing this up.
