I am finding myself going to Oakland once or twice a week lately for work. I need to program up my BC-346XT and my VX-3R for this these trips I think.

I mostly listen to law enforcement and fire. I have CHP loaded up on the VX-3R and the others on the scanner.

What cities here, there and inbetween would you load for the trip?

Also, CHP. I downloaded the pretty color map. I can't tell the difference in colors for it. Which colors do I want for that trip? Also, do I listen to the new 700Mhz frequencies in a standard scanning fashion or are they trunked or something?

Thanks for the help,
Justin

There's no cities really that interesting im my opinion. Unless you take 80 all the way down, I would add Richmond and Vallejo.

The CHP 700mhz are conventional not trunked.

So for CHP that would be Gold2 (N. Sac) or Black2 (S. Sac), depending on where you're coming from in Sac'to land, then Turquoise (Solano), Maroon (Contra Costa) and the Bronze (Oakland).

I just start scanning it all, then lock out the ones behind me as I go into the next office's area.

My understanding is that only the Valley Division (Sacto) is testing the 700 mHz extenders,

Yup, I take 80 all the way down. I just like to hear what is going on around me. Oakland PD is a busy system.

Thanks for the CHP info, I had it pretty much figured out except maroon. I was getting stuff on violet too.

I load just about everything; Contra Costa County, Solano County, The Vacaville Fairfield 800 MHz system and all the cities in Alameda county (Berkeley, etc).

I agree with kma371. I wouldn't bother with any of the cities, but would put Solano County and Alameda County in (in addition to CHP). Depending on the route you take, maybe Contra Costa as well.

If you were going to add cities, though, the Vacaville/Fairfield trunked system would be monitorable for a while as you pass through. Maybe Vallejo if you go through there. About all I might put in.

Well firewise, at least to the Contra Costa border would be:

West Sac FD (Sac River to the Causeway) 154.445
Davis FD (Causeway to Richards Blvd.) 154.370 or Davis TRS
UC Davis FD (Richards Blvd. to Kidwell) 154.370 or UC TRS
Dixon FD (Kidwell to Midway Rd.) 154.145
Vacaville FD (Midway Rd. to Cherry Glen Rd.) Vacaville/Fairfield TRS
Fairfield FD (Cherry Glen Rd. to Suisun Valley'ish ?) Vacaville/Fairfield TRS
Suisun FPD and Cordelia FPD (Suisun Valley to American Canyon exit) 156.000
Vallejo FD (American Canyon exit to the Contra Costa Co. line) 482.98750

Solano S.O. 155.490 (doesn't do a lot of freeway enforcement)
