I am not new to scanning, however I am new to this program called trunker. I have a Radio Shack Pro-97 and Pro-2096. Does the trunker program work with either of these scanners and if so how does one get it to work and if not is there a program similiar to trunker.

Please assist would love to see what others are looking at as well on a computer.

This isnt the forum this belongs in but I will answer with what I understand about this...

There should be documentation in the wiki on this site. You will need a radio that has the baseband audio circuit tapped (also known as the discriminator). I have a couple of radio' tapped - a RS Pro-2052 and a Uniden 780XLT. This provides the audio required for the program to work. The audio coming out of the speaker or earphone jack is filtered, it does not work with the program. Unitrunker uses the soundcard instead of a slicer circuit.

See if you can get your hands on an older scanner which receives 800mhz and tap it.

Good luck!

There are several programs out there that can decode the data being sent across the control channels of trunked radio systems. I would suggest you start at the Wiki page to get your feet wet. I will admit there is sparse information on somethings and plenty on others.

No matter which route you take you will need a scanner that is tapped, explained in the Wiki, and maybe even a dataslicer. I got away with just a tapped scanner running through my sound card in my PC. Depending on your potential tapped scanner you can do it yourself of hire someone. I actually tapped my BC898T. Found a webpage that showed the location and had good written instructions. There is no way I'd try it on my BC246T though. Once you get started start searching the Trunking Fourm.

Good Luck.

On the 780XLT, there are Data Slicer instructions on the Internet w/pictures to DIY. That radio has the slicer output points marked, and all you need is coax and a 1k resistor to terminate the hot side. You can also connect the coax directly to the DB-9 in the back to eliminate any extra hole drilling. Just Google 780XLT Data Slicing....

First of, to WalkieTalkie, if you are in the State of Utah, then welcome, and your question would be here. Being here will get local help for this area and its systems. If, on the other hand, you are not Utah located (hard to tell from your profile), your question would probably be better served in a different forum, i.e. Trunker or trunking forums.

Anouther answer to the first question, I use a Winradio Receiver with Discriminator output for Trunker. I also use Scancat with my BC785D, BC296D, and PRO-2052. Scancat uses the RS-232 cable for the trunk info. You get a list of the talkgroups but not the other neat things that Trunker decodes.

I use a program called "Uni-Trunker". It doesnt require a data slicer and it just so happens that the audio in my scanner is clean enough not to need a tap either...

I haven't used "trunker" but I think it is basically the same thing...
