I cannot figure out why Trunker will not run on my new laptop. Any help would be appreciated.

Here's the lowdown on everything:

- Windows XP Operating System
- Optocom With Bit Banger Option
- Latest Version of Trunker

I've run SLICER and know that the Optocom puts out a nice signal on pin DSR and is INVERTED. Plenty of interupts for TRUNKER.

Here's my TRACKENV2.TXT FILE:
TRACKSLICERPORT=COM1
TRACKSLICERPIN=DSR
TRACKSLICERMODE=INVERT

Here's my batch file to get Trunker running:
SET TRACKENV=C:\TRUNKER\TRACKENV2.TXT
TRUNKER.EXE

It takes off, displays the screen, and in about 5 seconds I get the red wantDSR??? message. I go to manually configure the pin and mode with no luck.

The signal I'm trying to listen to is about 10 miles away across open country - no issues with reception.

I've tried running it with a desktop shortcut and via the Command Prompt window, but no luck.

I can successfully run LTRTRUNK using by BC780 on the same computer.

Any ideas? Is XP too complicated for TRUNKER? Might there me a conflicting application that's trying to run the COM1 port?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Hey, Chris

I have had similar problems when trying to use DOS based programs in Windows 2000. It seems that Windowns XP and 2000 will not easily give up control of the COM ports. I had to use a program called Direct I/O. It allows these programs to take control of the COM ports away from Windows and does help with what you have described.

I can't recall where I found Direct I/O, but I'll be if you do a Google search for it, you will be rewarded...

Chris

Thanks for the response.

I downloaded the Direct I/O software, but now have a simple question...

How do I determine the Active Ports???

I understand adding the Security/Rights to the individual executable files like TRUNKER, ETRUNK, etc, but I have not a clue on where to find the COM1 address.

Oh for the days of DOS 1.0 and a 5.25" floppy!!!

To find the address of you COM ports;

Click on SETTINGS
Click on CONTROL PANEL
Click on SYSTEM icon
Click on HARDWARE tab
Click on DEVICE MANAGER
Find the icon for PORTS (COM & LPT) and double click on it
It should show you all the COM ports that are available. Double click on the COM port you are looking for. Click on the RESOURCES tab and you should see the hex address and interrupts for your COM port.

Could I use the Direct I/O utility to control a USB to Serial adapter so that I could run trunker on my XP Laptop that has no serial ports ?
