OK i could of put this in the Genaral Scanning Forum, but I wanted some good awnsers from all my friends here in OKlahoma, or all are welcome to help me out.

I am going to but a new mobile scanner to put it in my car i want to keep it small,
I havent even REALLY listened to a trunked scanner,

THe question is....Is there really a difference between trunking and analog, what i mean by this is the actuall Interest Point of View, is trunking any more intersting than analog, is there anything more you hear than you would on analog,

Please Guys Keep it honest

Some trunking is analog but I thing you are probably drawing the distinction between regular single channel repeater or simplex traffic and trunking.

Trunked systems offer you more to listen to. If you can receive the sytem then you can receive everyone on the system as long as they aren't encrypted. With regular systems there's a better chance they may run simplex low powered traffic and you may miss it.

I like how the other replies where from out-of-state members. :p

Anyhow, analog trunking will not sound a whole lot different from your regular conventional analog channels. The only thing a trunking scanner does is interpret the data put out on the data channel (listen to 867.750 in the OKC Metro to hear the state's data channel), and tells your scanner what frequency to goto to listen to a particular talkgroup. Some scanners have text IDs that you can assign to a talkgroup to make it easier to know who is talking. Any trunking scanner will allow you to "hold" on a particular talkgroup and monitor the traffic on it, rather than trying to scan around to find where those same users went.

One thing that might sound different, is that trunking scanners generally have an "end of transmission" code that will shut off the audio on your scanner before the repeater stops transmitting. This eleminates the squelch "crash" usually heard on so many conventional repeaters (on most scanners). This (in my opinion) makes them more pleasant to listen to.

Any conventional channels in a trunking scanner will sound about the same (depends on the speaker, model of scanners, etc....).

Digital voice brings a whole 'nother meaning and sound, but we won't get in this unless you really want to.
