I'm not too new to scanners but I am new to trunktracking. I dont seem able to input any of the things I'd like to into the scanner. at the moment I am using a BCT8 but am upgrading soon and would like to know how to input these codes. In the Frequency database here they give a Decimal and hex, how does all that work in?

Dec and Hex are the different display values for a talkgroup id, the have nothing to do with programing your frequencies. What area are you trying to program?

Your area is motorla type II smartnet anolog. (Leon County System) You only need to concentrate on the motorola type II trunking section of your manual. My first trunking scanner was a bct8, and I know it's frustrating reading the manual. If I remember correctly you have to keep jumping between pages to go thru the programing steps.

I have the Tallahassee system programmed into my BCT 8. I followed the instructions in the manual beginning on page 30 where it says, "Press TRUNK for 1.5 seconds . . ." Be sure you enter it as E2-800, because it is a Motorola Type II trunked system. (And, to answer your question above, you don't need hex and dex for it.) I programmed it by hand and don't remember exactly how I did it, but I used frequencies and talk group IDs from the havanafolks website (I put all frequencies in except for the 3 data ones). I also had a hard time figuring it out, and because it has to be programmed in a certain order according to the manual, I remember having to undo what I had already done, and start over a couple of times. I'm pretty sure it would be much easier than programming the 996, because I have the 246 which also has the dynamic memory system, and it was very hard to learn. Besides, you don't need digital yet, unless you want to monitor the Federal Corrections Institute (boring!). Hope this helps.
