Interesting. The one in mine is a Sandisk, 8GB. I also thought it was odd that there was no screen protection film on the screen out of the box. Yesterday I used it with brand new, fully charged rechargeable batteries (EBL 2800mAh). They eventually died on me after many hours so I removed them, and charged them in an external charger, as I do with all my scanners. When they were fully charged I put them back in and the scanner started acting weird. Battery indicator on the screen only read half full, then quickly dropped to about a quarter, then died. All this over about a 3-5 minute span. When I booted it up it also made some weird crackling noises from the speaker. I tried wired power with the USB. Worked find in both outlet and using an Anker 13,000 mAh battery for power. I tried another set of rechargeable batteries, same issues. I switched it to alkaline batteries and put in new Duracells, it worked fine. I tried the (old) Sanyo Eneloops from my other scanner, those seemed to work too. I can't tell if it just doesn't like certain batteries or it's defective and I should send it back.Mine were black unmarked and 4GB
I replaced them with SANDISK Class 10 8GB
Thanks for the replies, I thought it should have had a screen protector myself. Very disappointing experience so far, makes me worry that it was returned due to battery power issues. The lack of screen protector and odd microSD makes me suspicious that it's a return/refurb being sold as new. For $400 I expect better. I might be returning it and getting a bcd325p2 insteadThe battery cover is snug fitting.
All TRX's base or Handheld come with film over the screens.
I use Powerx Batteries with no problems charge in a POWERX charger.
That's what I've heard, I have really nothing to compare it to as it's my first digital scanner. Comparing it to my other analog scanners it seems to pick up analog pretty well. Audio is very clear compared to my old PSR-300. Way less static. I like to program by hand on the fly, the software has been very hard to get used to. I'm not sure why they couldn't have made it more user friendly. I own a Uniden bc246t and bc346xt, which are basically predecessors to the 325, and they're insanely easy to program on the fly. I knew what I was getting myself into though LOL 😂The TRX's work good as long as you are not in SIMULCAST or HIGH RF area.
Yeah, that's exactly why I went with it over the 325p2. For the same price out of the box it covers DMR. There isn't much NXDN near me so that's just an added bonus. I started the return process with Amazon, I'll see if I get catch the 325p2 on sale around 350-370. That way the DMR upgrade effectively doesn't cost much more than I already paid. Thankfully there's still plenty of analog to listen to in the meantime around me lolTRX-1 is a decent radio. Ya just got off to a bad start by Amazon shipping ya a used unit.
It does DMR & NXDN outta the box, no paid upgrade BS. Seems like gouging to me, for the money it should be included.
Another downside (for me) to the SDS 100 is the proprietary battery. I like commonality, all my other units run AA rechargeable batteries.
The software does suck, I use Excel spreadsheets to format my programming and import into software.
I'm on the fence. I suppose I could cancel the return and do a straight up exchange but this whole experience has left a bad taste in my mouth. I'm also considering the 436hp if I can get one on sale. Guess I'll sleep on it for a couple nights before making a decision.Do an exchange and specify that ya think ya got a used unit the first time.
If I had funds to spare for another radio, I'd get another TRX-1. Altho I'm already set up to program & power it, so I'm a little biased in that respect.
I had considered a BC352P2 just for it's size. I like my two BC125AT's I use for milair listening.
I paid $399 for my TRX-1 lolGood luck with sale prices. They play with the prices on these radios like they're trading commodities futures. Just a month or so back Walmart had best price on a TRX-1 - ~$399 or so, they're back up to ~$500 again.
A refurbed unit is $450 @ Whistler.

I doubt I'll find it elsewhere cheaper, I still have the option to cancel the return and can initiate another return or exchange according to what I've read on Amazon's help section. The Uniden 436hp is $450 right now, I think if it was $425 or less I'd just pull the trigger on that one. I don't like the huge size but the display is nice. The really hard to open battery compartment is a bit of a turn off to me on the TRX-1. Will reply back when I decide what to do ☹If you already have a 'return' in process, I would stick with that. You can still reorder one anywhere you wish and it'll be like starting over. Once a return is started many automatic things are immediately set in motion, IMHO all you'll do is confuse the issue and slow everything down to a crawl. Again, better to let the 'return' finish, then buy again. Who knows, there may be a price decrease (didn't happen in one of my cases but, maybe?). As it sits based on your reply (posted #3), looks like they are a reseller (8gb card, no screen protector...). Good luck
