I've never been to Tucson's PS Academy, but I'd expect everything to be simplex/low power.

At ALEA in Phoenix, one RTO carried the portable on runs. During Stop & Approach, was the only time the recruits got to play with a radio.

The point was that why would training needs be broadcast across county-wide?

Stop & Approach, EVOC training, range ops, burn houses, and what class is on what run/PT would be be infrequent and the radio is there for mostly emergency needs. I've worked at an academy and have first hand knowledge what transpires.

What you care to listen to is up to you. Out.

Almost every large public safety trunked system is carrying a good bit of traffic that could be just as effectively conducted on simplex channels.
