I run Unitrunker (beta 9) on my Dell desktop running Windows XP. I am able to control a second voice scanner without any problem. When I run Tuner it goes through its tests and ultimately displays OK.

I run Unitrunker (beta 9) on my Dell Latitude laptop running WINDOWS 95. The program works and displays correct data in the appropriate fields. Using the same settings as I do with the above working system I can NOT get Unitrunker to control the second voice scanner. When I run Tuner it lists MDL three time then says restarting followed by another MDL listed three time and so on. What does MDL indicate and what do you suggest?

Thanks,

Dennis

Hi Dennis;

The "MDL" command is specific to the newer Unidens. It confirms your choice of model.

If tuner appears to work ... by work I mean you can use it to cause the radio to change frequencies, enter scan mode, or switch to a specific channel ... then copy those settings into Unitrunker.

If you don't hear anything ... check your [L]isten options.

Set Listen to "Yes" - this turns on voice following.

If you haven't gone through your talkgroups and manually marked some of the them as Listen = "Yes" - you probably won't hear anything. You can instruct the program to ignore the individual group and radio Listen flags by setting Ignore Listen to "Yes".

As new groups and radios are discovered - the program assigns a default priority to each one (usually priority 50). Make sure your Listen Threshold is numerically EQUAL or MORE than the priority of the groups and radios to which you're like to hear. If you don't want to use priority based scanning, set Ignore Threshold to "Yes".

You can also lock-out individual groups and radio. If you don't want the program to ignore these groups and radios marked as such, set the Ignore Lockout to "Yes".

One last thing ... avoid setting the Park Mode to "Mute" ... use something else.

Hi Rick,

Rick said, "If tuner appears to work ... by work I mean you can use it to cause the radio to change frequencies, enter scan mode, or switch to a specific channel ... then copy those settings into Unitrunker. "

I can perform the above tasks with Tuner from Unitrunker installed on my Desktop with Windows XP (and can control a second voice scanner W/O any problems).

I can NOT do so with Tuner from Unitrunker installed on my laptop with WINDOWS 95 installed. The settings are set the same.

Unitrunker runs on my laptop okay.

Question: Have we verified that even though Unitrunker runs on Windows 95 has anyone actually controlled a second voice scanner running Windows 95?

I just want to say thank you many times over for Unitrunker as it has enhanced scanner monitoring immensely.

Good point. I stopped testing W95 over a year ago. Time to dust off my crufty '95 box.

PORTMON Log

Here is what PORTMON logged when starting tuner using WIN98 machine.
Maybe someone can figure something out from this.
I'm using serial port (COM 1) connected to a 396.
Used same settings in Tuner that were successful on an XP machine.
FYI-I have also tried changing the default settings of COM 1 including the bits per second and flow control with no luck.

Thanks David;

Good info. This appears to be a symptom of the differences between versions of Windows. Looks like the serial port is receiving data from the radio but the program isn't getting notified that the data is available after the first read.

In other words, it ain't working! I can just hear the sqeaky sound of the CPU fan on that creaky Pentium 133 ...

I'll need to validate W98 and ME too.
