Hi everyone. Before i get hammered for being a tool, i will admit, i am. But still need help.
I'm new to owning a scanner and ive nothing but an headache since. I bought my uniden ubc800xlt second hand with no frequencies preset in it. I have had ago doing this manually. I just want to listen to military/civilian air. I have no idea what all the gadgets are but i have put each air base frequencies in by entering the lowest and the highest frequency for each. Would i be right to assume this should now scan the range between these?. Ive got everything set to 'auto' that can be, so ive not allocated am,fm or uhf for any particular. So again, am i right in assuming set to auto will find the right one?. Other than that i get tangled and want to throw my scanner at the wall. I can sit at an RAF base and get some of the chat but when mine is quiet the guys next to me are getting more chat on theres. (I have all upto date frequencies off UKAF). Same at my local civilian (EMA) i'm getting sime but not all. I woukd have thought 'close call' would pick everything close?. I've tried freeSCAN to upload that way but get so far and then i get lost. (Not very PC tech).
So can anybody recommend anybody who will set them for me? Obviously i will pay. Every shop i have asked do not do the ubc800xlt. Willing to travel upto 100mile from Nottingham if anybody can help me. Please don't give me an hard time over this as im already cheesed off with it 😄 tia.

If you have all the frequencies then program them manually.

Push Menu then select Program System push E then select New System then push E
Select Conventional then push E select Edit Group then New Group and push E
Select Edit Channel then push E and select New Channel and push E
Enter a MIL frequency then E. Select New Channel and continue to add all MIL frequencies

Push Menu twice and select New Group and push E and select Edit Channel and Select New Channel and enter all civilian frequencies.

When done then push the Scan/Search button and you should be scanning the frequencies.

If there are PL DT HP or BT texts at the bottom of the display then push the POL and HP buttons until the texts are gone.
If you have a closecall symbol on screen then stop scan by the Hold/resume button and the push the dial and the button 3 until its gone.
If you see a PRI on the display then stop scan and then push the dial and then button 1 until its gone.
If you see ATT on the display the stop scan and push dial and button 7.
If you see WX on the display the stop scan and push the dial and then button 2.

You can push the Hold/Resume button to stop scan on a frequency, or when it monitors one of the frequencies, and turn the dial to a frequency
and push E to edit the delay and name tags if you want. You can also push Menu and go into Program System and Group and Channel to edit.

If you have some other systems in scan you can go into Menu/Program System and select those and set their Avoids to permanent.
It shouldn't be more complicated than that.

If you manage to read the scanner using FreeScan it would be easier to edit texts and delays. And as you read the scanner the programming
are the correct one and as you only did edit and then write back the same file everything should still work.

The best thing to do is learn the scanner.

Here's some helpful information about the scanner:

including the "Easier to Read" Manual.

Good luck!
Hi mate. I have been spending alot of time trying to get my head around it. I've youtubed it, tried reading the "easy manual" you suggested. I do learn a little more everytime but it is just frustrating when i go to the bases for the day and miss most the action due to faffing around with the scanner in the car.

Relax, and small steps :) .....
I feel like it is one step forward and 3 miles back. It don't help ive never had one before and have literally no idea.

Hi mate. I have managed to enter the frequencies, just the lowest and highest for each base, i have edited the name for each, i have not put them in a particular 'band plan tho', atleast i don't think i have. What ever can be set to 'auto' i have. It will scan through all my set frequencies and display the base name, i do get "some" chat when i am there but other guys are getting more. Plus when i do get chat i do not get the base name show, just frequency. I have sussed the 'hold' key when i do hit a frequency. I will try the steps you have put but sure ive done most of it. When i have saved all frequencies on freeSCAN im then struggling to get them to my scanner. Obviously im not doing something right. I will try again. These are not easy bits of kit are they😫

I think you need to start over.

The scanner uses Systems, Groups and Frequencies.

  1. Create a new System of the type you're trying to monitor.
  2. Enter the frequencies on by one
  3. Enter the Talk Groups

That's it!

You shouldn't need a lower or upper anything.

Good luck! (y)

Well don't laugh. Its taken me 4 hour to put the frequencies in manually the way doctordialtone told me. Everything was going cushty. Even picked a bit of speed up once my eyes had straightened out after the first 2hour of staring at numbers.🤪
Now when i got to the end i pressed scan and "F" all only my previous inputs. Not one single one ive just spent 4hour loading is showing in scan😤. What have i missed?. Will they all still be there somewhere? Or have i got to plan another half aday to do them again?. I know, before anybody says it, i shpuld have just done a few and checked it worked. But i did'nt😭😭. Any help much appreciated.

It's impossible to fail if you follow my instructions. Enter only 2 channels in each group and test.

If you manage to get FreeScan to work to read the scanner, you can post that scanner file with your message and we can look at it where all your frequencies have gone and hopefully give you a working file to load into the scanner.
